Plans are becoming more elaborate as it gets closer to the big hike.

Well, don’t let the walking part of the Black Rock Trail’s Hike & Wine event deter you: it’s a ramble through the North Mountain woods, along the Fundy shore and back to a garden picnic.

“There are lots of goodies - local cheeses, wines, sweets...,” says one of the organizers, Irmgard Lipp.

“We’re just taking a walk and having a picnic.”

The event is a fundraiser for the Black Rock Trail, a community-built and run network of quick walks and extended trails behind the Black Rock Culture and Recreation Centre, established in 2003.

“Different events are organized every year to help pay for operating the 20-kilometre trail system, to keep it in good standing with the Nova Scotia Trails Federation,” Lipp says.

The trail group just added two new foot bridges over Murray Brook, making the 8.5 kilometre trail accessible year-round.

“This will be an interpretive hike, guided by one of Acadia University’s many plant experts for those interested; or, you could just take a short stroll around the easy trail.”

After the woods walk, guests are invited back to a local residence’s garden for the gorgeous Fundy view, wine and cheese picnic and social time.

Tickets must be purchased in advance of the August 25, 10 a.m. event, at $20 per person. Contact Lipp at 538-8714, or email Trefor at trefandbarb@xplornet.com; or drop into Fritz’s in New Minas.
