Slow start, end for school work

Tender calls for work at three Kings County schools have been closed since July 17, but have not as yet been awarded.
Projects are slated for Aylesford’s St. Mary’s Elementary, Somerset elementary and Gaspereau elementary. July 31, an official with the Annapolis Valley Regional School Board reported the tender packages received for gym and music room upgrades at the three elementary schools were still being reviewed, and indicated a decision could be reached by the end of the first week of August.
It's been a different story at West Kings, where works crews have been busy since early July with a major parking lot resurfacing. West King’s renovation liaison Bruce Prout says the work is one of the final phases of renovations started at the school five years ago. Roscoe Construction was contracted by the Department of Education to install new cement curbing and pavement around the school and to make changes to the bus loop and entrance to the front parking lot. Paving in the front and back parking lots is expected to begin in early August and be completed by the end of the month. Phase six of interior work on the school has also continued throughout the summer, and Prout says it, too, should be wrapped by September.
