July 22, 2007 to July 28, 2007 Marjorie Eileen Dempsey - 85, of Morden, passed away Sunday July 22, 2007 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Harbourville, she was a daughter of the late Harold and Bessie Mae (Schnare) Kenneally. Marjorie was a long time resident of Victoria Harbour and Morden. She was an active member of Victoria Harbour United Baptist Church as well as the community. Marjorie thoroughly enjoyed gardening, pickling and canning. She will always be remembered as a loving and caring mother, grand mother and great-grandmother. She will be sadly missed but never forgotten by the many family and friends who surrounded her. Marjorie is survived by sons, Gerald, “Jerry” (Barbara), Morden, Reginald, “Reg” (Gina), Victoria Harbour, Keith (Connie), Victoria Harbour; daughters, Doris Salsman, Coldbrook, Laverna (John), Colville, Morden, Marilyn (Albert) Gray, Kingston, Doreen (Cecil Hussick) Dempsey, Petawawa, Ont; brother, Eldon (Judith) Kenneally, Harbourville; sisters, Theresa Lynch and Geraldine Woods; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Marjorie was predeceased by her husband, Gerald; brothers, Bill, John, Reg, Carlyle, Edwin and 2 grandchildren. There was no visitation for Marjorie by the family’s request. A funeral service for Mrs. Dempsey was held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday July 26 from St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Auburn with Canon Emery Harris officiating. Burial took place in St. Mary’s Anglican Church Cemetery, Auburn. Funeral Arrangements for Mrs. Dempsey are under the care and direction of H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick, N.S. July 22, 2007 to July 28, 2007 Helen Margaret Smith - 83, formerly of Berwick, passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2007, in Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville, where she resided. Born in Meteghan, Digby Co., she was a daughter of the late William and Laura (Thibodeau) Smith. Helen was a memeber of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Berwick. She worked at the B.F.M. Hospital, Kentville, for many years as the payroll clerk. Helen was a very loving and caring person who had a very soft spot in her heart for her cats, and for her home, which was always open to many family and friends. She is survived by her nieces, Anne Primrose, Chase, B.C., Lidwine Helen Comeau, Saurnierville, nephews Douglas Smith Jr., Berwick, Douglas Amirault, Cornwall, Ont.; William Capes, Milford, Conn., and Wayne Smith, Kentville. Helen was predeceased by her sisters, Norma, Catherine, Mable, and Lidwne; brothers, Douglas and Dennie. There was visitation for Helen on Wednesday, July 25, from 7-9 p.m. wth the prayer of the Rosary at 8 pm. in H. C Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick, NS, B0P 1E0 (902-538-9900), with a funeral mass on Thursday, July 26, at 11 a.m. , in St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 120 Mill St., Berwick, with Father Larry Pitcer officiating. July 22, 2007 to July 28, 2007 June Beverly Moore – 71, of Port Williams, passed away Monday, July 23, 2007 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville with family at her side. Born on April 28, 1936 in Aldershot, she was a daughter of the late Charles Hubert and Lula (Hushen) Moore. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. June was a Visiting Teacher in the church. She was employed at and retired from Scotties (Hostess Foods) in New Minas. She is survived by a son, Scott (Alice), Kentville, and grandson, Logan; two sisters, Dorothy Daigle and Truth O’Rourke, both of Kentville; three brothers, Victory “John” and Richard, both of Kentville; Everette, Coldbrook. She was predeceased by four sisters, Jessie, Thelma, Myrtle and Marjorie; four brothers, Frederick, George, Harry and Murray. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Friday, July 27, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service, followed by a reception was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2007, in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Belcher Street, Kentville, Bishop Charles Spinney officiated. July 22, 2007 to July 28, 2007 Kathleen "Cassie" Joyce Upshaw, age 87, of Three Mile Plains, Hants County, passed away on Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born on March 15, 1920, in Forties Settlement, Lunenburg County, she was the daughter of the late Mrs. Nellie Maude (nee: Corkum) MacDonald. She was formerly employed for 15 years at the Windsor Elms and then moving to Ontario, she worked as homemaker for over 30 years before retiring. In her early years she did babysitting in the Windsor area and was also a member of the Anglican Church. She is survived by her companion of 45 years, Robert Turner Millen; daughters, Maria (Jim) McCarthy, Three Mile Plains; Diane Coulson (James Jamieson), Woodstock, Ontario; sons, Clinton (Janette) Upshaw, Three Mile Plains; James Upshaw, Three Mile Plains; Gary Upshaw, Woodstock, Ontario; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. Besides her mother, she was predeceased by her husband, Clinton Upshaw; a son, Curtis Upshaw and two infant children; brother, Percy Corkum. July 22, 2007 to July 28, 2007 Shirley Mae Porter, age 74, of Falmouth, Hants County, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born on June 19, 1933, in Windsor, Hants County, she was a daughter of the late Irving and Madeline (McDonough) Porter. Before her marriage, Shirley worked at Williams Drug Store and was a Telephone Operator for Maritime Tel. & Tel., Windsor. Shirley and her husband Ed, owned/operated Ed’s Kwik Way Grocery Store, Falmouth, for over 18 years. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Edward; daughters, Catherine (Paul) Langdon, Saskatoon, Sask.; Lynn (Doug) Strong, Falmouth; sons, Steven (Sue) Porter, Windsor; Michael (Sheila) Porter, Ellershouse; grandchildren, Ashley and Meaghan Langdon; Brettanie and MacKenzie Deal-Porter; Adam Strong; brother, Fred Porter, Montreal. She was predeceased by a brother, Donald Porter; granddaughter, Molly Strong. Shirley was a member of Juniper Grove United Church, Falmouth; a volunteer with the Canadian Cancer Society; Heart & Stroke Foundation, and active in her community. She enjoyed her Tuesday morning bowling group, her Friendly Group, knitting, and regular card games. Born in Blomidon, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Minnie (Barkhouse) Legge. Velma was a member of the New Minas United Church. She was a very caring and loving person who always shared her hospitality with her family whom she loved very much. Velma is survived by sons, Donnie (Betty), Centreville, Gerald (Marlene), Cambridge, Stephen (Marion), Coldbrook, Bill, Victoria B.C.; sisters, Leota Bezanson, Sackville, Rolene Dwyer, New Glasgow; brothers Russell, Lunenburg, Erlyn and Ira both of Blomidon; 8 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Ingram Willis Harris; sister Nora Ells; brother, Sheldon Legge; in infancy her sister, Nellie and brother James; grandson, Chris. July 22, 2007 to July 28, 2007 Marion Abbie Hawkesworth – 88, of Wolfville, passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2007 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Lake George, Kings County, she was a daughter of the late Clyde and Bessie (Day) Lutz. Marion was raised by her late foster parents, Austin and Carrie Clem of Viewmount, Kings County. She had been a member of the Belmont Baptist Church in Colchester County. She worked for a number of years with her husband, Bruce in his business at Annandale Guest Home, Wolfville and continued to run it for several years after his passing. Upon her retirement, she moved to the Wolfville area to be with her daughter and husband, Evelyn and Gary Morine. She is survived by a daughter, Evelyn (Gary) Morine, Ridge Road, Kings County; a son, Wilfred (Joan), Hythe, Alberta; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; half sisters, Greta Baltzer, Audrey Lutz, Lillian Lutz, Valreta (Robert) Langille and Alberta Lutz; half brothers, Clinton (Doris) Lutz and Clyde Nelson Jr. (Lois); foster brother, Lorimer (Shirley) Clem. She was predeceased by her husband, Bruce; daughter, Marjorie; sister, Dorothy Crocker; half sister, Shirley; half brother, Fred Lutz; foster sister, Addie DeEll. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, July 26, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held 2:30 p.m. Friday, July 27, 2007 Reverend Robert Burbidge and Reverend Phil Locke officiated. Burial took place in the Belmont Cemetery. Family flowers only, by request.
