MELANSON, Herman Daniel – 89, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family on July 19, 2007. Born September 7, 1917, in Weymouth Mills, he was the son of the late Herbert and Isabel (Amirault) Melanson. At the age of seven, he moved with his family to Doucetteville. An honoured veteran of the Second World War, he fought bravely in tremendous battles overseas, was wounded, and after recuperating for seven months, was put back in the front lines until the end of the war. After the war, Herman moved to Clementsport where he was an employee at CFB Cornwallis as a cook for 32 years. He really enjoyed the people he worked with. After he retired he spent most of his time with his beloved grandson and his grandson’s lifetime friend, Sonny White. He would take them fishing in every brook and lake they could find. He loved the summers he spent at their cottage where he made wonderful memories playing cards with his family and his dear and special friends, Florence and Aubrey Deveau, and of course, always including their grandson and many of his friends. He was a really loving Grampie. He and his wife Marjorie “Nana”, loved having their grandson with them and opened their home to many of his friends over the years. His fondest memories were going to all of his grandson’s hockey games. His lifelong loves were truly his family and he lived his life for them. He had a great sense of humour and a very special laugh that everyone loved. He loved going to card parties with his son-in-law and loved people. He enjoyed his time spent with his brothers and sisters and their families and always took an interest in what they were doing. He was lots of fun and loved to dance. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife of over 50 years, Marjorie Melanson (Pulley); devoted daughter Isabel and son-in-law, Alan Marshall, Clementsport, and grandson, Alan Herman (Jill) Marshall, Barrie, Ontario. Also surviving are brothers Reed, (Eveleyn), Chester, (Helen) both of Doucetteville; sister, June. Digby, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son, Steven Anthony (16 months), sister, Sadie and brother-in-law Gerald McCavour, (New Brunswick). Funeral has taken place at Holy Cross Church, Plympton.
