A 28-year-old Woods Harbour resident has been sentenced to a three-year jail term on a charge of criminal negligence causing the death of his 25-year old girlfriend.
Cody Worthen has also received a 10-year driving prohibition and must provide a DNA sample for the national database.
Tara Lynn Muir died on Oct. 2 when Worthen lost control of the car he was driving, striking a tree and crushing the passenger side of the vehicle.
Three hours after the crash, Worthen blew readings of 1.60 and 1.50 in a breathalyzer test conducted by the RCMP. The readings are almost twice the legal limit and an RCMP expert estimated Worthen’s readings ranged from 1.80 to 2.00 at the time of the crash.
Worthen will be serving his sentence at Springhill or a similar federal penitentiary.
