RCMP respond to everything from accidents to artists

Members of the Annapolis RCMP spent a busy week from July 23 to July 30, dealing with 111 calls for assistance that ranged from car accidents and impaired drivers to noise complaints and traffic hazards. They even received a report of an artist on the side of the road painting a picture.
Included in the week's work were 12 false 911 calls, four false alarms, 21 traffic matters, and 18 domestic situations.
Following are highlights of the week:
-- July 23, 1 p.m. North Williamston. Police received a report of a speeding cube van. The driver was identified and cautioned about driving habits.
-- July 23, 1:45 p.m. Cornwallis. RCMP were requested to assist in a landlord/tenant dispute.
-- July 23, 5:16 p.m. Highway 8, Graywood. Police received a report of two four-wheelers driving up and down the highway. Police made a patrol but were unable to identify the persons responsible.
-- July 23, 6:50 p.m. Cornwallis. Police were called to a single vehicle accident. A pickup truck struck a stop sign. No injuries were reported. Minor damage was sustained by the vehicle and the stop sign. The investigation continues.
-- July 24, 3:26 a.m. Nictaux. A concerned citizen contacted police after receiving a number of prank phone calls. Call display showed a number from Ontario.
-- July 24, 6:32 a.m. Clarence. A citizen went to their mailbox early in the morning and discovered somebody had set off fireworks inside the mailbox.
-- July 24, 11:16 a.m. Middleton. A citizen contacted police seeking assistance in a child custody issue.
-- July 24, 11:34 a.m. Bear River. A citizen contacted police after discovering her purse had been stolen from her vehicle over night.
-- July 24, 2:13 p.m. Middleton. Police received a report of the theft of a cell phone. Several hours later the cell phone was turned in to a local doctor's office and returned to the owner.
-- July 24, 3 p.m. Middleton. Police received a report of a stolen vehicle.
-- July 24, 3:35 p.m. Victoria Vale. Police and EHS were called to a home after an elderly man passed away. Death was due to natural causes.
-- July 24, 4:15 p.m. West Paradise. A citizen contacted police after finding some old-style flares and gun cartridges. Police attended and retrieved the items to be disposed of at a later date.
-- July 24, 4:41 p.m. Maitland Bridge. Police received a report of a traffic hazard. A transport truck had broken down near a blind corner. Police were assisted by DoT to perform traffic control and a mechanic later attended to make necessary repairs to the truck.
-- July 24, 8:28 p.m.Deep Brook. Police received a report of a possible impaired driver. Police made a patrol and located the vehicle in the ditch. The driver was arrested for impaired, failed the breathalyzer, and charges are pending.
-- July 25, 11:40 a.m. Bridgetown. Police received a report of a gas-and-go at the ESSO station. Police contacted the person responsible. A minor memory lapse was cited and the person returned and made payment.
-- July 25, 1:47 p.m. Bridgetown East. Police received a report of a traffic hazard on Highway 1. Police attended and discovered an area artist had stopped to admire the scenery and paint a picture. An easel was set up on the side of the road. The artist's vehicle was moved to a less dangerous location.
-- July 25, 2:40 p.m. Arlington. A citizen contacted police and Department of Natural Resources regarding the operation of a boat on Rumsey Lake disrupting fishermen and swimmers. The investigation continues.
-- July 25, 4:19 p.m. Middleton area. Police and EHS were called to home after an elderly man passed away due to natural causes.
-- July 25, 4:21 p.m. Highway 101 near Paradise. Police received a report of a traffic hazard. Two large bails of hay had fallen off a truck onto the highway. Police and DoT attended and the bails were removed.
-- July 25, 10:50 p.m. Clementsport. Police received a report of a minor two-vehicle accident.
-- July 26, 8:27 a.m. Highway 201 South Farmington. Concerned citizens contacted police to voice concerns about speeding vehicles along the road.
-- July 26, 9:50 a.m. Upper Granville. Police located and confiscated a quantity of marijuana plants.
-- July 26, 2:14 p.m. Cornwallis. An individual contacted police after receiving threats. The investigation continues.
-- July 26, 6:47 p.m. Bridgetown. A local gas station contacted police to report a gas-and-go. The suspect was tracked down, apologized for the mistake and went back to pay for the gas.
-- July 26, 9:17 p.m. Bridgetown. Police were called to an apartment block to quell noisemakers. Police later attended again and those responsible departed without further incident.
-- July 26, 10:18 p.m. Clementsport. Police were called to a noise complaint. They discovered the noise was coming from the annual sea cadet graduation ceremony in nearby Cornwallis.
-- July 27, 9:59 p.m. Highway 101 at Lawrencetown. Police received a report of a traffic hazard when it was reported that a large four-foot by four-foot box was lying on the Highway. DoT attended immediately and disposed of the item.
-- July 27, 1:37 p.m. Highway 1 Middleton. Police conducted a STEP (Selected Traffic Enforcement Program). Seventeen motorists were ticket for driving without seatbelts and five other traffic warnings were issued.
-- July 27, 2:18 p.m. Graywood. A concerned citizen contacted police to advise that people were drinking beer on the beach. A male on a jetski was also drinking. Police were unable to identify the owner of the jetski.
-- July 27, 3:59 p.m. Highway 1 Allain's Creek. Police received a report of a two-vehicle accident. EHS and Annapolis Royal Fire Department also attended. There were no injuries. Both vehicles were damaged.
-- July 27, 7:14 p.m. Middleton. A report of a suspicious person turned out to be a missionary from Quebec spreading the Gospel.
-- July 27, 9:28 p.m. Bridgetown. Police received a report of an assault. The investigation continues.
-- July 27, 9:50 p.m. Lawrencetown. Police received a report of an assault. The investigation continues.
-- July 27, 10:09 p.m. Hampton. Police were called to the Hampton wharf to deal with a group of noisy youth. A patrol was made but the youngsters had already departed.
-- July 28, 12:11 a.m. Keji. Police were called to the park to assist staff in dealing with a noisy group of campers.
-- July 28, 2:50 a.m. Nictaux. A police check of a vehicle at the Needs store parking lot resulted in the arrest of two males. One was arrested for violating conditions of his house arrest. The second was arrested for violating conditions of a court order. Both were jailed overnight and charges are pending against both.
-- July 28, 3:13 a.m. Meadowvale. Police were called to an area trailer park to address concerns over uninvited guests.
-- July 28, 11:39 a.m. Cornwallis. Police received a report of a break and enter into the Hollow Takeout. Stolen was food and drink. The investigation continues.
-- July 28, 5:13 p.m. Highway 101 Bridgetown. Police received a 911 call about a possible impaired driver. Police made a patrol, located the vehicle and driver. The driver was not impaired, just fatigued.
-- July 28, 8:20 p.m. Middleton. Police received a report of a vehicle in the ditch. EHS and Middleton Fire Department also attended. The vehicle was towed and minor injuries were reported.
-- July 28, 8:38 p.m. Keji. Police were called to the park after receiving a report of a possible impaired driver. A patrol was made and the vehicle was located parked.
-- July 28, 10:32 p.m. Upper Clements. Police received a report of a possible impaired driver leaving Upper Clements Park. A patrol was made but the vehicle was not located.
-- July 28, 11:33 p.m. Cornwallis. Police received a report of a possible impaired driver. Police made a patrol and located the vehicle at a residence. The driver was spoken to but there were no signs of impairment.
-- July 28, 11:37 p.m. Bear River East. Police received a report of a dangerous driver. Police made a patrol but were unable to locate the vehicle.
-- July 28, 11:48 p.m. Torbrook. Police responded to a report of a fight. One man was arrested for property damage and assault. Charges are pending.
-- July 29, 3:59 a.m. Melvern Square. Police received a report of a loud party. A patrol was made and the problem dealt with.
-- July 29, 8:46 a.m. Nictaux. Police received a report of a single vehicle accident. The vehicle rolled and the driver suffered a broken foot. The vehicle was towed.
-- July 29, 10:24 a.m. Moschelle. Police received a report of an abandoned car. The vehicle was not properly registered and was subsequently towed.
-- July 29, 1:23 p.m. Lawrencetown. A citizen contacted police after discovering the license plate was missing from their vehicle overnight.
-- July 29, 7:54 p.m. South Milford. Police, along with EHS and Annapolis Royal Fire Department, went to the scene of a car fire. There were no injuries but the car was badly damaged.
-- July 30, 3:15 a.m. Bridgetown. Police received a report of prowlers on a property. A patrol was made but the individuals had fled the scene.
