July 15, 2007 to July 21, 2007, continued Falon Tawnya Urquhart – 14, of North Alton, Kings County, passed away Thursday, July 19, 2007 in Kentville. Born in Kentville, she was a daughter of Walter Urquhart, Truro and Amber Wood (Derek Russell), North Alton. She attended Coldbrook and District School from where she graduated with honours and was looking forward to attending Central Kings Rural High School. She played tuba in the school band and excelled in sports, especially basketball, volleyball, and under-16 soccer. In addition to her parents, she is survived by two sisters, Catrina Urquhart, New Minas and Sarah Russell, at home; her paternal grandmother, Margaret Urquhart (Don March), Truro; three uncles, Brad Wood, Kevin Wood and Mark (Colleen) Urquhart, all of Truro. She was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, William and Vivian (McNutt) Wood; her paternal grandfather, Cecil Urquhart; an aunt, Diane Wood; an uncle, Dimock Wood. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, July 21, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 22, 2007, Pastor Renee Embree officiated. July 15, 2007 to July 21, 2007, continued MELANSON, Herman Daniel – 89, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on July 19, 2007. Born September 7, 1917, in Weymouth Mills, he was a son of the late Herbert and Isabel (Amirault) Melanson. At the age of seven, he moved with his family to Doucetteville. An honoured veteran of the Second World War, he fought bravely in tremendous battles overseas, was wounded, and after recuperating for seven months, was put back in the front lines until the end of the war. Herman moved to Clementsport where he was an employee at CFB Cornwallis as a cook for 32 years. He really enjoyed the people he worked with. After he retired he spent most of his time with his beloved grandson and his grandson’s lifetime friend, Sonny White. He would take them fishing in every brook and lake they could find. He loved the summers he spent at their cottage where he made wonderful memories playing cards with his family and his dear and special friends, Florence and Aubrey Deveau, and of course, always including their grandson and many of his friends. He was a really loving Grampie. He and his wife, Marjorie Nana, loved having their grandson with them and opened up their home to many of his friends over the years. His fondest memories were going to all his grandson’s hockey games. His lifelong loves were truly his family and he lived his life for them. He had a sense of humour and a very special laugh that everyone loved. He loved going to card parties with his son-in-law and loved people. He enjoyed his time spent with his brothers and sisters and their families and always took an interest in whatever they were doing. He was lots of fun and loved to dance. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife of over 50 years, Marjorie Melanson (Pulley); devoted daughter, Isabel, and son-in-law, Alan Marshall, Clementsport; and grandson, Alan Herman (Jill) Marshall, Barrie, Ontario. Also surviving are brothers, Reed (Eveleyn), Chester (Helen), both of Doucettville; sister, June, Digby; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son, Steven Anthony (16 months); sister; Sadie and brother-in-law Gerald McCavour (New Bruswick). In lieu of flowers, donations in memory can be made to Annapolis Community Health Clinic. July 15, 2007 to July 21, 2007, continued SWINIMER, Lois Leona - 83, Windsor. It is with sadness the family of Lois Swinimer announce her peaceful passing at home on July 16, 2007, surrounded by her family. Born in Leminster, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Annie (Swinimer) Wile. Lois was an active member of Windsor United Church and past president of the UCW. She was a 50 year member of the Fairfield Chapter No. 22 of the Eastern Star and held an office during her entire membership. She also volunteered with the Red Cross for 15 years. During her working years, she was employed at MacDonalds Bookstore, Simpsons and Stedmans. Lois enjoyed spending time in her beautiful gardens, knitting and making quilts and preserves. She will be best remembered by all who loved her as a shining example of a life well-lived because of her kindness, tireless dedication to others, her "no-nonsense" approach, and "Nanny's rolls". Her passions included her family and beloved "Monty". Lois is survived by daughter, Andrea (Stephen) Boyd, Windsor Forks; son, Michael (Lisa) Swinimer, Lower Sackville; grandchildren, Sara and Michael Boyd, Kayla, Kally and Shelton Swinimer; sister, Dorothy O'Leary. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Harley; infant son, Byron; brother, Cecil. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lohnes Funeral Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where the family received visitors from 2-4 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, with Eastern Star holding a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. in Lohnes Funeral Service Chapel. Funeral service was held 11 a.m. Thursday, July 19, in Windsor United Church, 613 King St., Windsor, Kelly Burke-King officiated. Reception followed. Private family interment took place in Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor. Family flowers only. July 15, 2007 to July 21, 2007, continued MORTON, Stanley W. “Red” –passed away on Monday, July 16, the result of a terrible fall to the beach, near a wharf in Victoria Beach, N.S. Red was born on Feb. 13 in Oxford Mills, Ontario in 1931. Stan was married to the late Muriel Frude who predeceased Red in October of 2005. Red and his wife lived in Newfoundland for several years and lived in Bridgetown before moving to Digby in 2000. Red had worked at Hillcrest Motors in Halifax, and was a salesman for the R and M Paint Co., and others. He is survived by sons Dean in Darmouth, and Bruce in Upper Granville, and by two grandsons, Rodney in Grand Prairie Alberta and Dawson in Upper Granville. Red is also survived by his nieces, Shirley Harvey and Barbie Sulis. Red was a member of the Order of Good Cheer and the Royal Canadian Legion. He was an enthusiastic player in the $10 poor house Poker Club and a regular in the Irving Coffee Club. Red enjoyed dining out with friends and really enjoyed hosting lobster parties. His sudden death was a shock to his many friends who will miss his companionship and his willingness to be a good neighbour and friend. He will be sorely missed by his everhelpful niece Barbie, always there in times of need. Stan was cremated and his interment next to his wife in the Hillgrove Baptist Cemetery at a Graveside service attended by his family and his many friends. Pastor Chuck Daniels officiating.

July 15, 2007 to July 21, 2007, continued CROFT, Carl—88, of Riverdale, Queens County passed away peacefully in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Riverdale, he was a son of the late William and Bertha (Shupe) Croft. Carl was a veteran of World War Two serving with the R.C.A.C. He was a former employee with STENPRO, Liverpool. He loved gardening and working with his oxen. He is survived by his daughter Cheri, Riverdale. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Marjorie White, sisters: Edith, Mildred and Belle and brothers: Joseph, Russell, Perry, Ralph and Jordan. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. A graveside memorial service was held Sunday, July 22nd, 2007 in Croft Family Cemetery, Riverdale. July 15, 2007 to July 21, 2007, continued DURKEE, Kenneth Robert - 85, Hebron, Yarmouth, passed away July 19, 2007, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born on June 26, 1922, in Clifftondale, Mass., he was a son of the late Samuel and Edna Durkee. Kenneth was an adherent of Hebron Baptist Church, and a member of Beacon United Church. He was a veteran of the Second World War. Kenneth was a past president of the Yarmouth Legion Branch 61, and a service officer there as well. He was a well known local musician. During his life he was a Commercial Traveler for F.C. Robbins, R.H. Davis and E.K. Spinney's Ltd. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Kenneth is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marietta (Nickerson) Durkee; daughters, Patricia (Peter) Saulnier, Meteghan; Diane (Brent) Clarke, Canmore, Alta.; Pauline (Earl) Ring, Arcadia, Yarmouth Co.; sons, Michael (Jane), Yarmouth; David (Brenda Sands), Yarmouth; Thomas (Patti), Toronto; Richard (Wendy Siddall), Hebron, Yarmouth Co.; 19 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Lyman; sister, Lois Teasdale; half-brother, Raymond, and half-sister, Ruth. Visitation will be held Sunday, July 22, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Sweeny's Funeral Home Chapel, with a Legion Branch 61 service at 7:30 p.m. Funeral service took place Monday, July 23, at 2 p.m. in Hebron Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Johnson officiating. Burial took place in Riverside Cemetery, Hebron. Donations may be made to Camp Peniel or a charity of your choice. July 15, 2007 to July 21, 2007, continued SURETTE, Florence Marie - 91, passed away peacefully Friday July 20, 2007 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born November 28, 1915 in Surette’s Island, she was the daughter of the late Jovite and Annie (Bourque) Surette. She was a housewife who cherished her family, enjoyed cooking and sewing. Surviving are son Malcolm (Joanie) Surette, Gatineau, Que.; daughters Joan Surette, Yarmouth; Vel Surette-LeBlanc, Petawawa, Ont.; cousin Georgette Surette, Yarmouth; 4 grandchildren and 10 great grandsons; besides her parents she was pre-deceased by husband Forman Surette; brothers Simon and Jerome; sister Lorette; 2 siblings in infancy. Visiting hours were held Monday July 23 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9, with prayers at 8 pm at H. M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, 29 Albert St. Yarmouth. Funeral mass was held at 2:00 pm from Saint Ambrose Cathedral, 43 Albert St. Yarmouth, Father John MacPherson officiated. Interment will be in Saint Joseph’s Parish Cemetery, Surette’s Island. July 15, 2007 to July 21, 2007, continued Lane, Meril Cecile—75, of Lecanto, FL formerly of Littleton, MA, Collingswood, NJ, Saint Paul, MN, Fredericton, NB and Pictou, NS, passed peacefully Friday July 20, 2007 in her home with her husband by her side. Cecile was born on February 11, 1932 in Halifax, NS, Canada, the daughter of Georgia Meril (Clark) Moore and Frederick W. Moore. She grew up in Moncton, NB, and received a B.A. from St. Francis of Xavier College of Antigonish, NS. Cecile was married at Stella Maris Parish in Pictou, NS to John Edgar Lane of Liverpool, NS on September 19, 1953. She was a devoted wife, caring mother, friend and confidant to many. Cecile and her husband retired to Florida in 2000. Cecile, Ed’s lovely bride and friend of the last 54 years, leaves her husband J. Edgar Lane of Lecanto, FL; sister Margaret (Moore) Nagata of Villas, NJ; sons J. Edgar Lane of Freeport, ME, Frederick W. Lane of Leominster, MA, Michael J. Lane of Baldwinsville, NY; daughters Sharon K. Faldasz of Littleton, MA, Veronica A. Phaneuf of Montague, MA and Vivian M. Sarna of Belchertown, MA; and their families including 9 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate that donations be made in Cecile’s name to Hernando Pasco Hospice, Citrus County Office, 3545 N. Lecanto Hwy. Beverly Hills, FL 34465, who helped make her last days more comfortable. She was much loved by all and all will miss her.
