A male fashion show on Friday, Aug. 3 is expected to be a major highlight for the start of the second annual Hawk Daze.
The fashion spoof is part of the variety show at the Barrington Lions Hall that begins at 7 p.m. Other entertainment includes music by Bernard Nickerson and associates, and skits. Donations at the door.
The event is being held at the Barrington facility due to the lack of suitable venues in Clark’s Harbour. Last year close to 400 people attended Hawk Daze.
“We didn’t expect the turn out we had last year,” said spokesperson Brenda Cleaver.
“There were people who came from all over.”
The next morning, Saturday, Aug. 4, boat rides will be provided from the Hawk Wharf to the Cape Light, starting at 8:30 a.m. Boats will continue ferrying passengers until the afternoon, with the last departure from the Cape at 3 p.m.
Trips are free but donations to captains are gratefully appreciated.
A Beach Bash starts around 3 p.m. on the Hawk Beach with a potluck picnic and treasure hunt.
“Everyone brings either a covered dish, bottles of pop or potato chips, stuff like that,” said Cleaver. Hot dogs will be provided.
Rain date for the Beach Bash is Sunday, Aug. 5.
Donations collected through Hawk Daze will be directed towards the erection of a monument in memory of Hawk community residents who have served their country, and founding Hawk families.
Residents from outside the Hawk area are welcome to attend all events.
