Yarmouth RCMP investigating armed robbery
The Yarmouth RCMP are investigating an alleged armed robbery that occurred at the A&W Restaurant on Starrs Road at approximately 10 p.m. on Sunday night.
Two individuals are in police custody, but as of Monday morning no charges had been laid.
“When these things happen it’s a storm, so right now we’re picking up the debris,” RCMP Corporal Greg Church said Monday morning. “We’re cleaning it all up and seeing what we have at the end of the day.”
On Sunday night the RCMP responded to a 911 call from the restaurant.
Police say employees at the restaurant were confronted at gun point by a lone suspect demanding cash from the register.
According to the RCMP, the suspect fled the scene soon thereafter with an undisclosed amount of money.
The police dog was dispatched to the restaurant, along with responding members from the Yarmouth Town RCMP, RCMP Yarmouth Town Street Crimes Unit and the town detachment’s general investigations unit.
The police dog picked up a track and led police to a residence in the centre of town. Two men were arrested outside the home and taken into police custody without further incident.
The RCMP is not disclosing much about their investigation at this time.
They say further information will be released to the media as there are developments in their investigation, particularly if charges are laid.
