A Shelburne man was able to flee from police on four occasions before finally being arrested and placed under police custody.
It started on July 10 when Shelburne RCMP were called to the mother’s home of Jason Joel Goreham, in Welshtown, on the subject of a breach of probation.
Before the police arrived, Goreham fled into the woods and was located in a cab 1 hour and half minutes later by police.
When Goreham realized he was about to be arrested, he quickly fled the taxi and began to run down the street.
He was apprehended a short distance away and placed under arrest but the elusive man was able to slip away once again.
During the week, a cottage in Welshtown was broken into and items such as food and supplies were stolen with Goreham as a suspect.
On Aug 15, police were tipped that Goreham was in the Welshtown area once again with a firearm in his possession.
“That’s all we knew and with that we began to actively look for him in that area,” said Sgt. Barry MacLellan of the Shelburne RCMP.
Police looked all weekend with the aid of a dog to catch the man’s trail.
That same day the dog located Goreham, and chased him but once again, Goreham performed his disappearing act by fleeing down the river.
Finally, two hours later after the dog had lost his trail, Goreham was apprehended and this time kept in custody by the police.
No firearm was found and Goreham was charged with various charges including breaking and entry into a cottage.
