Comedian Jimmy Flynn will be in Hantsport July 26.
Funnyman Flynn to heat things up in Hantsport
BY CHRISTY MARSTERS
A high-energy performer guarantees to heat up the Hantsport Fire Hall with hysterical scenes July 26. Comedian Jimmy Flynn is ready for another night of bellowing and boot-stomping in Hantsport.
Hantsport Deputy Chief Shannon Cunningham says the event was set up to help raise needed funds for the fire department.
“The entire event was originally Jimmy’s idea. He called me up out of the blue after having performed at the Hantsport Fire Hall back in April for a cancer fundraising event. He said he wanted to help the Hantsport Fire Department raise money because he had a great time when he was here last.”
Cunningham has watched a Jimmy Flynn show before and recommends it to others.
Those attending can expect a great time with combinations of unique humour and a musical mix that’ll leave you laughing all night long, Cunningham said.
“Jimmy knows Maritime folk and how we have the ability to laugh at ourselves because he’s from Newfoundland. He’s not your typical celebrity-type performer whose fame has changed his actions. Jimmy is just as approachable as your own neighbour, only 10 times as funny.”
Performed with the greats
Over the last 30 years, Flynn has performed across the country with other talents such as Johnny Cash, Cheech and Chong, Tommy James, and The Dixie Chicks. He has shaped over 400 radio shows, 49 television episodes, four bestselling comedy videos, six best-selling CDs and two joke books.
Flynn says he likes to leave a laugh wherever he goes because it’s a nice way to make a living. “There’s a real healing power in laughter,” he added.
For those with high blood pressure or heart disease, this show is a must, Flynn said. “It’ll be the night of their lives; a real good time.”
It’s important to have the audience involved, Flynn said. “I always make everybody shake hands at the show because once this happens all the walls come down and people aren’t strangers anymore. They’re only friends that didn’t have the chance to meet yet.
“Going to smaller towns in the Maritimes is nice, though, because people all know each other and it’s easier to meet up with old friends,” Flynn said. “I like going to the small-town shows because there are big-time people there.”
For those looking to catch the Jimmy Flynn show, tickets are available for $20 at the Hantsport Town Hall and Hantsport Pharmasave. The doors and bar will both be open to those over 19 at 7 p.m. and door prizes along with 50/50 ticket will be on sale during the event.
