Roseway hospital ER hit by unexpected closure
For the first time since February, the Roseway Hospital, Shelburne Emergency Department will be closed for a day because of a lack of physicians. The Emergency Department will be closed between 6 a.m. Monday, July 16 and 8 a.m. Tuesday, July 17.
The last closure of the ER at Roseway happened on Feb. 24-25, due to a sudden physician illness.
Tanya Nixon, a spokesperson with South West Heath said this closure comes as a result of another unexpected situation and she said no future closures were anticipated.
“We have all other shifts covered for the summer,” she said. “Mind you, that could change, but we don’t foresee any more closures.”
During the ER closure, Shelburne County residents requiring emergency services should visit Yarmouth Regional Hospital Emergency Department (60 Vancouver Street, Yarmouth) or Queens General Hospital, Liverpool. If necessary call 911. Emergency Departments under the South West Nova District Health Authority use a triage system that gives priority to emergency cases. The public is reminded to call 911 in the case of an emergency.
