Fined for breathalyzer readings
The court has fined a Coldbrook octogenarian for driving while his blood-alcohol readings exceeded the legal limit.
Owen Blair Cochrane, 80, pleaded guilty to the charge in Kentville provincial court Monday, July 9.
Judge J.A. MacLellan fined Cochrane $600 plus a $90 victim surcharge, or 11 days in custody on willful default, for the offense.
MacLellan also prohibited Cochrane from driving in Canada for a year, a ban the Nova Scotia Registry of Motor Vehicles will at least match.
Cochrane committed the offense in Kentville May 30 when police found he had blood-alcohol readings of 130 and 110 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.
The legal limit is 80 mg/100 ml.
Failed to pay restitution
Berwick resident Jason Ross Saltzman, 32, pleaded guilty July 9 to failing to comply with a probation condition to pay $70 in restitution.
Judge MacLellan suspended sentencing on Saltzman for the conviction and imposed six months of reporting probation on him. He also ordered the accused to pay the restitution within four months.
Saltzman committed the breach in Kentville between Jan. 1 and March 27.
Drove while privilege revoked
Wolfville resident Maurice Harold Kelly, 47, pleaded guilty July 9 to driving while his privileged of obtaining a driver’s license was revoked, contrary to the Nova Scotia Motor Vehicles Act.
Judge MacLellan fined Kelly $900 plus a $135 victim surcharge.
Kelly committed the offense in New Minas May 20.
Drove while license suspended
Brooklyn Corner resident Richard Gordon Watton, 44, pleaded guilty July 9 to driving while his driver’s license was suspended, contrary to the Motor Vehicles Act.
Judge MacLellan fined Watton $900 plus a $135 victim surcharge.
Watton committed the offense in Waterville May 12.
