Thieves targeting copper, aluminum, parked cars
Crime Report July 2 to July 9

The police wish to advise the public that during the past few months, thieves have been targeting area businesses that deal in metal products such as copper and aluminum.
Also with the return of summer, thieves have been targeting vehicles parked at beaches and parks, stealing purses and personal items. Remember to lock all valuables in the trunk, or leave them home.
The RCMP responded to 110 calls for assistance during the week of July 2 through July 9. There were four false 911s; seven false alarms; four traffic accidents; and five calls concerning domestic matters.
Following are highlights of these calls:
-- July 2 at 2:50 p.m. Police were called to Lequille to investigate a theft from a vehicle. Personal items were taken from a vehicle that had been parked.
-- July 2 at 3:20 p.m. A Wilmot area business reported a complaint of theft over $5,000.
-- July 2 at 3:19 p.m. Police were called to Kejimkujik Park after campers left a fire burning at a campsite.
-- July 2 at 7:09 p.m. Police were called to a motor vehicle accident in Brooklyn. A car and tractor collided.
-- July 3 at 8:45 a.m. Police were called to Nictaux in response to a complaint of mischief. A vehicle was tearing up property.
-- July 3 at 9 a.m. Police received a report of a commercial vehicle speeding in Granville Ferry. A patrol was made. Police will continue to monitor the situation.
-- July 3 at 12:09 p.m. A motorist in Middleton complained of a disturbance. A pedestrian walked out in front of the car. When the motorist pulled over to speak to the pedestrian, the walker began yelling obscenities at the driver.
-- July 3 at 3:15 p.m. A female walking in Williamston complained that a suspicious acting male driver offered to give her a drive. The driver was contacted by police and cautioned.
-- July 3 at 4:10 p.m. A Middleton business reported an attempted theft from coin machines.
-- July 3 at 6:56 p.m. A motorist reported a dangerous driver traveling eastbound on Highway 101. The elderly driver was driving erratically on the shoulder of the road and was later intercepted by members of the Kingston detachment and cautioned.
-- July 4 at 10:56 a.m. A break and enter was reported to an outbuilding in Greenland. The door had been forced, and the investigation continues.
-- July 4 at 5:33 p.m. Police received a report of a suspicious person at Kejimkujik National Park. The warden reported that a person driving a car with Ontario license plates was hanging around the parking lot of the park. When approached, the driver quickly left and was seen driving erratically along Highway 8.
-- July 4 at 7:34 p.m. A Middleton business requested assistance in dealing with a suspicious person.
-- July 4 at 7:49 p.m. Police received a complaint from Bear River that a youth was suspected of using drugs.
-- July 4 at 7:50 p.m. Police were called to Kejimkujik Park to deal with four intoxicated males who were causing a disturbance. Police made a patrol and spoke with security and the occupants of the campsite.
-- July 4 at 11:47 p.m. A caller from Spa Springs reported seeing a suspicious person emerge from the woods. The caller noticed the person after seeing a vehicle parked with the interior light on. The person tried to hide from view after being detected by the caller.
-- July 5 at 00:36 a.m. Police were called to investigate a possible break and enter at a Bridgetown business. A patrol was made, but police found no evidence of a break and enter.
-- July 5 at 5:15 a.m. Police received a call that four work horses were walking down the McGill Road in Wilmot.
-- July 5 at 11 a.m. Police were called to Granville Center after two vehicles flipped into the ditch. The accident occurred when the second vehicle hit the first vehicle that was turning into a driveway. One person was taken to hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
-- July 5 2:15 p.m. Police received a report of dangerous driving from Bridgetown. The driver of a commercial vehicle was stopped in Mt. Hanley.
-- July 5 at 7:56 p.m. Police received a complaint of death threats uttered in Middleton. The case is under investigation.
-- July 6 at 8:50 a.m. Police were called to Middleton to investigate a theft under $5,000. A camera that had been left hanging in a coat rack at an institution was stolen.
-- July 6 at 9:44 a.m. A Nictaux caller reported that an air compressor had been stolen from a woodshed. Later that day, the caller informed police that the item had been recovered and that no crime had been committed.
-- July 6 at 3:30 p.m. A male was arrested in Nictaux after uttering threats. He was held in cells, and charged with uttering threats and impaired driving.
-- July 6 at 11:23 p.m. Police received a report of a disturbance in Nictaux. The caller reported that a male and female were fighting in a parked car. The car was intercepted and both occupants initially gave police false identities. Once the male’s identity was established, it was discovered that a warrant had been issued for his arrest. A quantity of marijuana was also found in the car. Police took the male into custody and lodged him in cells until his appearance in court on July 9.
-- July 7 at 3:15 p.m. Police were called to a disturbance in Carlton Corner. Police were told that two males were fighting and that one of the men was wielding a knife. Several members attended and found that two neighbours were arguing about a dog control issue. Pruning shears were found at the scene, but were not involved in the incident. Police did not find a knife.
-- July 7 at 4:54 p.m. Police were called to Kejimkujik National Park after three incidents were reported of illegal possession of alcohol. A patrol was made and the campers were not aware that it was illegal to have alcohol off their campsite.
-- July 7 at 7:38 p.m. Police were called to Granville Ferry in response to a complaint of uttered threats. An intoxicated man was remanded to custody until his court appearance.
-- July 7 at 10:18 p.m. Police were called to a Middleton business after receiving a report of suspicious activity. There were no signs of forced entry into the business that has a long history of break-ins.
-- July 8 at 03:39 a.m. Police destroyed a large quantity of alcohol at a Nictaux checkpoint. Five males were charged under the Liquor Control Act.
-- July 8 at 12:19 p.m. Police were called to a break and enter at a residence at South Farmington. The matter is still under investigation. A number of items were taken and property damage resulted from the incident.
-- July 8 at 4:56 p.m. Police received a report of theft from Upper Clements Park. A vehicle had been broken into and a purse and various personal items were stolen.
-- July 9 at 7:13 a.m. Police received a report of theft from Wilmot.
-- July 9 at 9:01 a.m. Police received a report of theft from Upper Clements Park. Items were stolen from a parked motorcycle.
-- July 9 at 1:31 p.m. Police were called to Stronach Mountain Road to a motor vehicle accident. There were no injuries reported as a result of the incident.
