A fire department veteran said the other day that he had received a telphone call from someone claiming to be raising money for the Yarmouth fire department. The public should be aware that the department is NOT calling people for money and the police have been noified about this matter. Please keep this in mind should someone call your home requesting donations to the fire department.

BLOOD DONOR CLINIC



A two-day clinic will be held at Burridge Campus on Tuesday, July 10, and Wednesday, July 11. Hours for both days are 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. One hour of your time and your blood could help others to live.

TRAILER FIRE



YFD responded to the Brooklyn Trailer Park for a fire caused by a malfunctioning furnace. Although the furnace was damaged considerable smoke was cleared away. The page was sounded at 9:10 a.m. on Monday, July 2.



DATE IN HISTORY



July 9, 1869 - The block of tenement buildings known as Queen's Row and an adjoining house were totally destroyed by fire about 3 o'clock starting in an unoccupied apartment. It quickly razed the entire wooden structures. The insurance expired two days previous to the fire. The origin of the fire is unknown but appeared to have been set.



FIRE INSPECTOR RESIGNS



After three years as the town fire inspector, Ryan Thibeau has resigned his position, accepting a similar post in Truro. While in Yarmouth Ryan was very active in the fire prevention program and was involved in a number of activities within the department. Our best wishes to him as he continues his fire service for the Town of Truro.

2. Playing with the toaster, stove or furnace

3. Burning items such as toys, paper or garbage

4. Setting a fire to destroy something or hurt someone



Thing to watch for:



1. Matches or lighters go missing

2. Matches or lighters found among your child's belongings

3. Burn marks on household items or the child's clothing or possessions

4. Your child is extremely interested in fire
