June 24, 2007 to June 30, 2007 continued AKIN, Alice Beatrice - 99, Windsor, formerly of Falmouth, passed away peacefully Monday, June 25, 2007, in Windsor Elms Senior Citizens Home. Born in Falmouth, she was a daughter of the late Austin and Alice E. Wile. Alice was a member of St. John Ambulance, a member of Leila Rebekah Lodge 59, and she loved her work as a nurse at the Freemasons Home for 15 years. Alice had a great passion for dogs and also enjoyed a good hot cup of tea. Surviving are her brother, Laurie Cameron, Windsor; nephew, Bruce (Nancy) Cameron, Gaspereau, and their children, Vicki, Shelley (Jeff) and John (Lia); special brother-in-law, Bill Akin; also several other nieces and nephews. Alice was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Charles Akin (1984); sisters, Susie Houghton, Emily Benedict, Agnes Purvis, and Ethel Cameron; brothers, Henry “Evans” Wile and George Wile. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lohnes Funeral Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where the family received visitors from 10-11 a.m. on Thursday, June 28, followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. in Lohnes Funeral Service Chapel, Rev. E.E. Hill officiated. Interment was held in Centre Falmouth Cemetery. Donations in memory of Alice may be made to a charity of one’s choice. June 24, 2007 to June 30, 2007 continued PAYZANT, Shirley Alberta Louise - 92, Windsor, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, June 27, 2007, in Dykeland Lodge. Born in Falmouth, Shirley was a daughter of the late Paul and Alberta (King) Wilson. She received her education from Windsor Academy, obtained a Grade A Superior First Rank Diploma from the Provincial Normal College, graduated from Acadia University and continued her education receiving several degrees. She devoted her entire career to education in Nova Scotia and taught in many different schools. She continued to tutor students for two decades after she retired. Shirley enjoyed spending time with family and friends as well as painting, playing golf and bridge. Shirley is survived by sisters, Mildred Beckman, Tenecape; Pauline (Mrs. Ken Hartling), Dartmouth; children, Karen (Mrs. Bert Northrup), Penticton, B.C.; Marshall (Barbara) Payzant, Dartmouth; grandchildren, Carrie (Mrs. Steven Burgess), Centre Burlington; Katie Payzant, Scotch Village, as well as four great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, John Marshall Payzant; sister, Beatrice Park; brothers, Charles and Curtis Wilson. Arrangements were entrusted to Lohnes Funeral Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where the family received visitors from 7-9 p.m. Friday, June 29, 2007. The funeral service was held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 30, in Juniper Grove United Church, Town Road, Falmouth, with Rev. Glennis Smith officiated. Interment was held in Centre Falmouth Cemetery. June 24, 2007 to June 30, 2007 continued Ruth Phyllis Neville (nee Rockwell) – 89, of Easton’s Corners, Ontario, formerly of Kentville, passed away peacefully on Friday March 30, 2007 at Rosebridge Nursing Home, Easton’s Corners. Born in Welsford, Kings County, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Gladys (Manson) Rockwell. She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Kelly, Kemptville; two grandchildren, Terri (Tony Roach) and Paul (Blayr) Kelly; two great grandchildren, Sarah and Katelyn Roach; two sisters, Helen Balsor, Kentville and Leonora Murphy, Centreville. She was predeceased by her husband, Everett; a daughter, Kimberley Jo Neville; two sisters, Dorothy Moore and Gladys Hutt; a brother, Paul Rockwell. There will be no visitation by family request. A memorial service celebrating the lives of both Ruth and Kimberley Jo Neville was held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. A reception followed in the reception room. Burial took place in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Kentville. Donations in memory may be made to the Kemptville District Hospital Foundation. June 24, 2007 to June 30, 2007 continued Joseph William “Bill” Doucette, 72, Brighton, Ontario - The family of Bill Doucette are saddened to announce his sudden passing on June 10, 2007. He was born and raised in Yarmouth, the son of the late Albert and Odelle (Comeau). Bill proudly served 25 years as a pilot in the air force before working in commercial aviation for 15 years. Bill was the beloved husband of Donna Jean, nee McRorie, the cherished father of Deborah Helferty (Patrick), Douglas (Anne), James (Annemarie), and Joel (Jordan) and a much loved Papa of Taylor, Kristen and Eric Helferty. He is also survived by his sisters Joyce (David), Betty and Diane. In addition to his loving parents, Bill is predeceased by sisters Katherine (Jackson) and Regina (Phillips). He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, including those of his church of which he was very involved. Bill touched so many lives in so many ways that with his passing, the world has lost a bright light.
June 24, 2007 to June 30, 2007 continued MacADAMS, Murray, 68, of Hanmer, Ontario passed away Thursday, June 14, 2007 at the SRH-Laurentian Site. He was the beloved husband of Geraldine (Eiriksson) MacAdams of Hanmer; loving father of Jo-Ann Quesnel (husband Yvan) of Timmins, Sharon MacAdams of Victoria, B.C, Carol Welch (husband Adam), of Capreol, and Katherine Cheff (husband Dean) of Timmins; cherished Grampa of David (predeceased), Julie and Chantal Quesnel, Shawn MacAdams (wife Theresa), Benjamin (predeceased) and Jessica Welch and Cole Cheff and great grandfather of Katie MacAdams. He will be sadly missed by eight brothers and sisters and many nieces and nephews. He was the dear son of Roma and Lillian MacAdams, both predeceased, and stepson of Lillian Innes of Hunts Point, Nova Scotia. Murray enjoyed spending time on the island salmon fishing from morning till night, playing cards and going to the Casino. He was a Contract Miner in Elliot Lake, Hemlo and Timmins for many years, until his retirement in 1992. A memorial service was held on Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at the Lougheed Funeral Home, Hanmer/Capreol Chapel.
June 24, 2007 to June 30, 2007 continued DOLLIVER, Marion Rita “Hon” — 72 of Liverpool, NS passed away June 23, 2007. She is gone to be with her beloved husband, Eugene. She will be missed by all her family who surrounded her with love. Funeral service was held June 27, 2007. A special thank you to Dr. Thorne and the Home Support workers.
June 24, 2007 to June 30, 2007 continued Aina Brekke passed away peacefully in Calgary on June 26, 2007, age 89. She was predeceased by her husband David Brekke in 2005 and son Tor in 1956. She is survived by her daughter, Christene (Stephen) Macumber and grandson, Dana Hanssen Macumber, of Calgary, Alberta, a sister Kate Johnsrud and two brothers, Knut and Arne Borge, all of Norway. She was born in Tonsberg, Norway, and studied as a Master Hairdresser. During World War II, she was an active member of the Norwegian resistance movement and moved to Nova Scotia at the end of the war. For many years, she owned a hair salon in Windsor and also operated a hair salon at the Windsor Elms Senior Citizens Home. She was a long-time member of the Juniper Grove United Church in Falmouth. She moved to Calgary, Alberta, in 1996.
