June 24, 2007 to June 30, 2007 HORGAN, Joseph Allen – 57, passed away Monday, June 25, 2007 in North Hills Nursing Home, Granville Ferry. Born in New Brunswick, he was a son of the late Harold J. and Muriel Pearle Horgan. In 1991, Joseph met Barbara and Russell Acker through the AA and Al -Anon programs. At that time he was about 34 and a very mixed up, lonely, scary person with a lot of people being fearful of being around him because of his temperament. They became close friends and as time moved on, he became like a son. Joe became a very loveable kind hearted person with the help of the AA programs and the people he met through them. He was able to turn his life around and remain free of drugs and alcohol until his death. He fit right into the Acker family and they became his family as he had no family that accepted him and his disease (schizophrenia). Joe remained with the Acker’s until his health became too much for Mrs. Acker to handle. The Acker’s remained in touch with Joe as much as possible, by telephone, birthdays and Christmas. When Joe’s income was reduced, that took away his will to live because he could no longer afford to buy cigarettes. A graveside service was held Friday June 29 in the St. Lawrence Cemetery, Kingston. Donations in memory may be made to the Team TNR or Multi Addiction Centre Society. Online condolences may be made through: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
