Turtle lays her eggs at the busy intersection of Ohio road. Amy Woolvett photo
Snapping turtle laying eggs
The largest of Canada's freshwater turtles, the snapping turtle, only comes out in late June and early July to lay her eggs.
This one was seen at the corner of the Ohio intersection laying around twenty eggs before walking away. A Shelburne Department of Natural Resources member came to the scene to keep people away and the turtle safe from oncoming traffic while she laid. The eggs will not hatch until late fall or early spring.
