News from the local fire departments
TRAINING PAYS OFF
Yarmouth volunteer firefighters who spent two days training for vehicle extrication Saturday and Sunday, June 16-17, were able to put this to good use on Monday, June 18. A two- car accident on Brunswick Street made it necessary to use the rescuie jaws to remove the driver from one of the vehicles.
A quick response by the fire department and the knowledge gained from the two day session made the work easier and quicker. A good job by all involved. One driver was transported to hospital by ambulance with what was determined to be minor injuries.
NINE FIREFIGHTERS KILLED
Firefighters, both career and volunteer, are grieving following the tragic loss of nine firefighters killed in a warehouse fire in Charleston, South Carolina. Those who join the fire service are well aware of the risks they may take and the danger they face on each response.
We join with the many whose hearts go out to the families of these brave men. May they rest in peace.

FIRE SPRINKLER RECALL
The Globe Fire Sprinkler Corp., is recalling dry fire sprinklers model J heads, which can fail to operate during a fire. The sprinkler heads can deteriorate over time and fail to operate in a fire.
The model J series comes in pendent, upright and sidewall configurations. The name "Globe", the letter "J" and the year of manufacture (1990 through 1999) are embossed on the frame. These sprinklers were designed to be installed in areas of buildings where sprinklers or water supply pipes may be subject to freezing.
