A Shelburne woman was sentenced to eight months in jail after she unexpectedly appeared in court last Wednesday to give her guilty plea on several outstanding charges.
19-year old Leandra Dawn Bush plead guilty to an assault charge, damage to property, breaches of undertaking and failure to appear in court.

“It’s a significant sentence,” said Crown Prosecutor Jim Fyfe.

On Aug 5, 2006, Bush was arrested for Assault by the Shelburne RCMP and released the same day on an undertaking with conditions.

She was to abstain from the consumption of alcohol or other intoxicating substances and to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

On Sep 27, 2006, Bush was called to the Provincial Court to enter her plea but failed to appear and subsequently further charges were laid.

At 1:30 am on Dec 30, 2006, police were dispatched to a complaint at a residence in Sandy Point.

Bush had taken her friends cell phone in Sandy Point and had broken it in two.

She was arrested and place in the back of the police vehicle whereas Bush proceeded to kick aggressively at the cruiser’s window resulting in damage.

She was incarcerated for the night and released the following day on four charges; Mischief for damage of the police window, mischief for damage to the cell phone, breach of undertaking when she failed to comply with the Keep the Peace and be of Good Behaviour condition and a Breach of Undertaking when she failed to abstain from the consumption of alcohol.

Again, on May 16, 2007, Bush failed to appear for sentencing on all matters and a warrant was issued for her arrest.

She appeared in court suddenly Wednesday to plead her case and as well as being sentenced for eight months in a provincial jail she was sentenced to 12 months probation.
