Coolen, Gladys Mary -84, Berwick, Kings Co., passed away Friday June 15, 2007, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Grafton, Kings Co. she was a daughter of the late Rupert and Margaret (Burns) Rafuse. In 1962, Gladys along with her sister-in-law, Eleanor Spencer and a group travelled to visit her husbands grave, who was killed in action in the Second World War, at the Grosbeak Cemetery, Nimegen, Holland, She was a member of the Faith Tabernacle United Pentecostal Church, Berwick. Gladys had worked in Halifax for 15 years as a store clerk, returning home to care for her parents and since September had resided at the home of Dorothy & Wylie Saltzman, Berwick . She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are nieces, Margaret Rhodes, Victoria, B.C.; Linda “Lexi” Blackett, Lakeside; great nephews, Stephen Rhodes, Victoria, B.C.; Darren Blackett, Halifax; sister-in-law & good friend, Eleanor Spencer, Clyde River, Shelburne Co. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Pte. Gerald Coolen; brother, Fred Rafuse; sisters, Doris Rafuse; Ruth Blackett; nephew, Fred Blackett. There was visitation for Gladys 7-9 p.m. Sunday June 17, in the H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick, N.S., B0P 1E0, (902-538-9900), from where the funeral service was held 2:30 p.m. Monday June 18. Rev. Tony Gratto officiated, assisted by Rev. John Mean. Burial was in the Berwick Cemetery. Mosher, Arthur Harold “Sonney” - 73, of Berwick, formerly of Waterville, passed away peacefully in Grand View Manor, Berwick on Friday June 15, 2007. Born in Berwick, he was the son of the late Arthur and Jessie (Reese) Mosher. Sonney will be sadly missed by many family and friends. Sonney is fondly remembered for always speaking his mind and his love for watching all the sports he could on television. Sonney is survived by his sisters; Reta Comeau, Waterville, Erma Misner, St.Catharines, Ont; niece, Yvonne Corkum, Waterville; nephew, Paul Misner, St. Catharines, Ont; great niece, July Comeau; great nephews, Justin Bezanson, Trevor Misner; great-great nephew, Jason Comeau. Besides his parents, Sonney is predeceased by grandparents, uncles and aunts. There was be no visitation for Sonney by his own request. There was a graveside committal service at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday June 19 in the Cambridge Cemetery, Cambridge with the Rev. Dr. Judith Saunders officiated. WILLIAMS, Carol Margaret, 66, of Shelburne, formerly of East Green Harbour, passed away on Friday, June 15, 2007 in South Shore Regional Hospital. She lived at Lake Road Apartments for several years. She worked at National Sea Products for many years. She enjoyed knitting, cooking and camping. She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Family was very important to her. She grew up on a farm in Northport, Cumberland County. Carol was well liked by her neighbours. She was the wife of the late Bruce Williams. Born in Northport, Cumberland Co., she was the youngest daughter of the late Howard and Mae (Scott) Angus. She will be sadly missed by her daughters, Tracy (Gardiner) Allen, Centreville; Cindy (Richard) Enslow, Barrington; Kelly (Franklyn) Harlow, Bridgewater; grandchildren, Gardiner Jr. (Nicole), Cory, Kyla, Devon (Rhonda), Rowan, Jennifer (Jared), Allison (Peter), Alex and Brian; great grandchildren, Neryssa, Logan and MacKenzie. She is also survived by brothers, Gordon (Marion) Angus; Arnold (Pat) Angus and sister in-law, Doris Angus, all of Ontario. From her husband’s family, she is survived by brothers-in-law, Vinal (Elizabeth); Wendell (Dorothy); Merril (Sarah), all of Lockeport; sisters-in-law, Jessie Roache, Lockeport; Valda (Byron) Tanner, Bridgewater; Linda (Norman) Simpson, Prince Edward Island. She is also survived by special niece, Gail Hemeon, Lockeport, along with many other nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her good friends, Merrill and Bonnie Kohler. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by sister, Gladys Regan and brother Leslie Angus; brother in-laws, Alonzo, Maynard, Neil, Brian and sister in-law, June King. Funeral service will be Tuesday, June 19, 2007 in H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Chapel, Lockeport with Elder Beverley Nickerson officiating. Interment in Lockeport Cemetery. SURETTE, Donald Francis – 88, Pinkney’s Point, Yarmouth Co., passed away on Saturday, June 16, 2007, after a brief illness with cancer. Born in Pinkney’s Point, he was the son of the late Rose Emma (Melanson) and Thomas Surette. He was known for his generosity, whether it was mowing lawns, plowing driveways, or just simply visiting his family, which was very important to him. He will be truly missed by all his family and friends and will be remembered always. He was a husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all. He served actively overseas (1940-1944) in World War II, with the West Nova Scotia Regiment and fought with the 1st Canadian Division through France, Belgium and Holland. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 61, Yarmouth, for 41 years. He was a retired fisherman. He was an avid gardener having planted his vegetable garden this spring. He belonged to the Eel Brook Campers Association and was the association’s washer champion for many years running. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, June Olive Louise Saulnier; daughters; Caren , St. Margaret’s Bay; Suzann Fraser (Charles Symes), New Brunswick; Greg (Dale Greene) Argyle; Danny (Winnie Moulaison), Ste. Anne-du-Ruisseau: Veronica (Tom Tanner) Halifax; grandchildren, Tammy, Terry, Kelsey, Ryan, Colette, Andre, Monique, Ginette, Sarah and Tom; brothers Delmar, Yarmouth; Arnold (Marlene) Toronto; sisters; Christina (Juhn) Kuzyk, Mississauga, Ont.; Anita (Roy) Surette, Angie McCarthy and Laura Letteney, all of Yarmouth; Betty Margolian, Digby; Leona (Al) Jorstad, Toronto. He was predeceased by brothers Benjamin, Roy, Ronald, Edward, Clarence and Arthur; sisters Doris, Freda, Marion and Emily. Visitation was from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Tuesday June 19, in H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert St. Yarmouth, with a Branch no.61 Legion Service at 7:30 and prayers at 8 pm. Funeral mass was held at 1 pm Wednesday June 20, from St. Raphael’s Catholic Church, Pinkney’s Point, Father Wieslaw Papuga officiated. Interment followed in the parish cemetery. Reception followed at Club L’estantue, Pinkney’s Point. Family flowers only. Memorial donations any be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Saint Raphael’s Cemetery Fund. The family would like to thank all doctors (especially Dr. Hollenhorst), radiation therapists and nurses from the Nova Scotia Cancer Center, 5A and ICU. MORRISON, Lynda Christine - 43, Pembroke, Yarmouth Co., passed away June 16, 2007, after a lifelong battle with mental illness. Born on April 16, 1964, in Halifax, she was the daughter of Lieutenant Colonel Robert Morrison and Donna Huff. Lynda was a member of Holy Trinity Anglican Church and also a member of the Yarmouth Lions Club. Lynda is survived by her life partner, Dianne O'Dea, Pembroke; nieces, Maegan and Emma, Kingston, Ont. She was predeceased by her sister, Kimberley. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth. There was a memorial service held Thursday, June 21 at 4 p.m. in Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Father Tom Vaughan officiated. Burial will take place at a later date. HARRIS, Eleanor Bartha - Born January 18, 1946, died in Yarmouth Regional Hospital on June 16, 2007. She spent her working life in the employment of the Federal Government in Halifax, Ottawa and Moncton. On her retirement, she returned to her hometown of Yarmouth where she volunteered her time in a number of organizations. She will be missed by her mother, Rose Harris; sisters, Susan Eldridge (Pat), Judy Sollows (David); brothers, Jim (Elizabeth), Lorenzo (Sharon), David (Coral); her nieces and nephews. There was no public funeral at Eleanor's request. A reception in her memory was held in Beacon United Church Hall on Thursday, June 21, at 4 p.m. Remains have been entrusted to Sweeny's Funeral Home. Should friends wish to honour her life with a donation, she was fond of Villa St. Joseph-du-Lac and the Yarmouth Food Bank. SMITH, Alfred George, 76, Lower Clark’s Harbour, Shelburne Co., died Saturday, June 16, 2007, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in Lower Clark’s Harbour, he was a son of the late Lewis and Beatrice (Barnes) Smith. He was a member of the Wednesday Night Bowling League. He loved playing cribbage and was passionate about gunning. He is survived by his wife, Eunice; sons, Darrell (Sybil), Newellton, Eric (Kim), Clark’s Harbour; daughter, Jocelyn (Doug), Newellton; brother, Tony (Diane), North East Point; sisters, Nellie Bateman, Clark’s Harbour, Eliza Maxwell, Florida; grandsons, Ryan Smith, Todd Smith, Ernest Ross, Danny Ross, Kurtis Ross; great granddaughter, Emily Stoddard; great grandson, Tydus Ross. He was predeceased by son, Danny; an infant son; brothers, Bill, Colburne; sisters, Viola, Gloria, Kathleen. The funeral service was held on Wednesday, June 20, 2007 in H. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, Barrington, Rev. Shaun Hatfield officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Lower Clark’s Harbour.
