Gloria Ann — 70, Dartmouth, passed away peacefully with family by her side Sunday, June 10, 2007 at the Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Port Mouton, she was the daughter of the late Ansel and Doreen Allison. Gloria was predeceased by her husband Norman Clarence; daughter, Rose Marie; sisters: Doris (Lormer) Roy, Jeannie (Murray) Bowers, Yvonne (Robert Verge). She is survived by sisters, Hazel (Earl) Fisher, Trudy (Wilbert) Daury; brothers, Burnell (Patsy) Allison, Gary (Donna) Allison; sons, Bill (Cheryl), Greg, and Norman; daughter, Sherry (Gary) Maynard; grandchildren: Nick (Lindsay and soon to be great grandchild), Sarah, Lisa, and Brittany. Gloria enjoyed her family, her beloved cats, and Saturday Night Classic Country Music. Gloria worked most of her adult life, most recently at Med Express, which was the highlight of her day. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Atlantic Funeral Homes, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth, memorial service was held Friday in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Patricia Malin officiated. Donations may be made to the Dartmouth General Pallitive Care Unit.

Edward James “Ned” - 91, Windsor, Hants Co., passed away Monday, June 11, 2007, in Dykeland Lodge, Windsor. Born November 15, 1915, in Windsor, he was a son of the late William and Nora (Daigle) Graham. As a young man, he played many sports including hockey and was a player on the Windsor Maple Leafs hockey team. He worked for 49 years at Nova Scotia Textiles Mill in Windsor. His greatest pleasure was working in his garden and strawberry patch where he could be found whistling all day. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, the former Florence “Flossie” White, Windsor; son, Edward and daughter-in-law, Faye, Kentville; grandsons, Randy and Robbie (Jennifer); great-grandsons, Andrew, Hunter, and Brandon; brothers, Jack (Pat) and Gordon (Priscella); sister, Nora (Rex) Peach; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, William, and sisters, Bessie Gould and Maggie Barker. Eddie and Faye would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at Dykeland Lodge (Blenkhorn Centre) for the great care and kindness given to Ned. A sincere thank you to all the staff at Dykeland Lodge for their continued care and ongoing support for the family. Also, thank you to Jonathan DeMont and staff of Lohnes Funeral Service. Helen Evangeline Hiltz – 91, of Amherst, formerly of Kentville, passed away on Monday, June 11, 2007, in the Centennial Villa Rest Home, Amherst. Born in Canning, Kings County in 1916, she was the youngest daughter of the late William “Gordon” and Annie Eleanor (Dargie) Goldsmith. She received her education in the Canning School and later graduated from the Provincial Normal College in Truro. She had been employed as a teacher in Kings County. Following her marriage in 1938, she moved to Kentville where she lived for 62 years. She was a member of St. James Anglican Church, Kentville, where she taught Sunday school and was a leader of the Little Helpers. She was a member of the Afternoon Guild and a charter member of the Woman’s Auxiliary at St. James. She served as secretary of the auxiliary and was later made a life member of the Woman’s Auxiliary of the Anglican Church of Canada. She is survived by a daughter, Deanna Lee (Fred) Atkinson, McKees Mills, New Brunswick; a son, Dr. David William (Margaret) Hiltz, Shediac, New Brunswick; a sister, Erma Thomson, Berwick; a sister-in-law, Frances Hiltz, Kentville; four grandchildren, Megan Tiasco and Matthew Hiltz, Geoffrey and Timothy Atkinson; three great grandchildren and an unborn great grandchild; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond Kaye Hiltz; three sisters, Muriel Harrison, Frances Woodburn and Mona Steves and infant sister, Laverne; a brother, Malcolm. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville and there will be no visitation by family request. A private family graveside service was held in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Kentville, Reverend Charles Bull officiated. Family flowers only by request. DOUCETTE, Sylvia Anne – 92, Raynardton, Yarmouth County, and formerly of Springhaven, passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2007, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born July 16, 1914 in Springhaven, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Madeline (Doucette) Morris. She worked as a caregiver at both Bethany Hospital, as well as at Sparks Nursing Home, both in Calgary, Alberta. Sylvia was a member of the Live-In Society, and she enjoyed sewing, quilting, cross-stitching, knitting, and crocheting. Surviving are a son, Don (Shirley) Doucette, Calgary, Alberta; daughter, Marie (Thomas) Thibault, Ste. Anne-du-Ruisseau; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Mary Doucette, Calgary; sister-in-law, Georgina Morris, Springhaven. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Walter V. Doucette; a son, Gerald; a granddaughter, Theresa Schell; brothers, John, David and Louis; sisters, Catherine, Roseanne, Charlotte, Esther, Rosalie and Angele. Visitation took place from 7 to 9 Friday evening, with prayers at 8 PM, both in H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Albert Street, Yarmouth. The funeral mass was held at 10 AM, Saturday, June 16 from Saint Agnes Catholic Church, Quinan, Father John MacPherson and Father Crepin Khonde officiated. Interment followed in the parish cemetery. Louise Marie Greenwood - of Riverview, passed away at The Moncton Hospital on Tuesday June 12th, 2007 following a courageous battle with Leukemia. Born in Yarmouth, NS on September 1, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Margaret (Jeddrey) Amirault. Louise was an active member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Riverview, and enjoyed a successful career as a real estate agent in the Greater Moncton area. She served as a Town Counselor in Riverview for a term and was a dedicated supporter of numerous local charities. She is survived by her daughter Cathy Woods (Stephen) of Riverview, sons; Robert ( Karen) of Ottawa, Stephen ( Tanya) of Riverview, Peter (Maya) of Florida, brothers Russell Amirault of Yarmouth and Robert (Mona) Amirault of Toronto, grand children Nicholas, Vanessa, Susannah, Victoria, Kristen, MacKenzie and Colton, as well as several nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by her long time companion Mr. Tim Sullivan, as well as her dear friends and co-workers. A special thanks to Louise's “Chums” especially Judy Chadwick and Brenda Fleet whose love and kindness was greatly appreciated. The funeral Mass was celebrated at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Riverview, NB, on Thursday June 14, 2007. Interment in Fairhaven Memorial Gardens, Moncton. Thomas Raymond “Tom” - 77, South Rawdon. It is with great sadness the family announce Tom’s death on Tuesday, June 12, 2007, in Sydney River. Born in South Rawdon, he was a son of the late Sedley and Jenny (Mason) Blois. Tom will be sadly missed by his family and many friends. He is survived by his loving children, Yvonne, Musquodoboit; Jean (Mike Purcell), South Rawdon; Lee (Cheryl), South Rawdon; Richard (Tamara), Mount Uniacke; Joe, South Rawdon; and Sam (Kelly), South Rawdon; his grandchildren, who will miss him dearly, Dylan, Josh, Tina, Ashley, Carson, Kelsey, and Rachel; as well by his brother, Ken (Wilma), Sydney River; and sister, Minnie Doncaster, Deep River, Ont. Tom was predeceased by his wife, the former Eva Ruby Robarts; brothers, Willis and Howard. Tom had numerous occupations during his life, including being in the navy, school bus driver, farming, store proprietor, and working for the Department of Transportation. Later in life, his most enjoyable job was working in his woods. He also enjoyed going dancing, playing cards, traveling and visiting with friends. Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Lohnes Funeral Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). There was no visitation by request. A memorial service was held 2 p.m. Friday, June 15, in Lohnes Funeral Service Chapel, Rev. Clarence Bungay officiated. A reception was held in the funeral home’s Elmcroft Reception Centre. Raymond Philip Hiltz – 62, of Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville, passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2007 in the home. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Arthur and Florence (Ogilvie) Hiltz. In his earlier years, Raymond was employed in the Maple Leaf warehouse in Kingsport. Raymond was a very special person who was always concerned for others. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by three sisters, Irene (Carl) Burrell, Kingsport; Marilyn (Alder) Ruddick, Springhill; Linda Keddy (Laurie Hardacker), Kingsport; three brothers, Arthur, Halifax; Gerald, Evergreen Home for Special Care; Dougie (Diane), Middleton; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, David; a niece, Heather; his step-father, Glendon Thorpe. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville and there will be no visitation by family request. The funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 15, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Chaplain Mary Anne Doherty-Fleet officiating. Beverly Maxwell Conrad – 79, of Kentville, passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2007 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Hemford, Lunenburg County, he was a son of the late Harold and Lela (Russell) Conrad. He attended Kings County Academy, where he played all sports, including rugby, in which he earned the nickname The Mighty Mite. He also played hockey in Middleton, Berwick, Annapolis Royal and for the Kentville Wildcats, and had the distinction of scoring three goals against NHL goalie Harry Lumley during a game played at the Digby Forum in the late 1950s. He had been employed as a commercial traveler for many years and later owned and operated his own convenience store, The Corner Shop, in Kentville. He was a former member of the Kentville Lions Club and the Royal Canadian Legion, Kings Branch No. 6, Kentville. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, the former Marion Wheelock; a son, John (Mary), Amherst; sisters, Greta Sproule, Middleton; Sylvia (Hartley) Foote, Kentville; a brother-in-law, John (Judy) Wheelock, Truro. He was predeceased by two brothers, Truman and Merton; a brother-in-law, Hal Sproule. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Visitation was held from 7-8 p.m. Friday, June 15, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where a funeral service was held at 1:30 p.m. followed by a reception on Saturday, June 16, 2007, Pastor Thelma McLeod officiated. STODDART, James Edward “Jim” – 84, of Aylesford, NS, passed away Thursday, June 14, 2007 in Grand View Manor, Berwick. Born in Truro, he was a son of the late James E. and Annie (Dunn) Stoddart. Jim practiced optometry in Middleton and Aylesford from 1947-1980. He was a charter member of the Middleton Rotary Club as well as a 55 year member of Harmony Masonic Lodge #52, Aylesford. Jim was custodian of the Aylesford Union Cemetery for a number of years and well respected citizen of his community. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, the former Mary E. Campbell; daughter, Mary Ann Stoddart, Toronto; sons, Bently (Linda), Victoria Harbour; Shaun (Christine), Aylesford; Ted, Morden; 9 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; sister, Martha Hudson, Port Wade; daughter-in-law, Virginia, Aylesford and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Ruth and Mary Anna. Visitation was held Saturday, June 16, 2007 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, (902) 825-3448. A memorial service was held Sunday, June 17, 2007 in the Aylesford United Church, Pastor Kaye Dean officiated. Interment will be in the Aylesford Union Cemetery.
