Mildred Irene Robar - 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 3, 2007, at North Queens Nursing Home, Caledonia. Born in Milton, she was a daughter of the late Oliver and Winnifred (Wamboldt) McCoombs. Mildred was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a good friend to all who knew her. She will always be remembered by her daughter, Dianne (Lyman) Whynot of Milton; sons: Gerald (Marion) of Bramelea, Ont., David (Barb) of Port Alice, BC, Ray (Ann) of Port Alberni, BC; grandchildren: Karen, Billy, Tina, Nicole and Toby; eight great-grandchildren; her sister, Dorothy Robar of Mahone Bay Nursing Home. She was predeceased by her husband, Reginald; son, Gordon; sisters: Inez, Margaret and Cora; brother, Eugene. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers' Funeral Home, Liverpool. A private graveside service will be held at a later date in Milton Community Cemetery. No flowers by request. Donations may be made to any charity. SURETTE, Charles Raynard "René" - 36 King St., Yarmouth, passed away peacefully in Yarmouth Regional Hospital on June 3, 2007. Born in Wedgeport on September 22, 1922, he was a son of the late Edmund Surette and Nemonise Surette. A 14-year member of the Yarmouth Fire Department, and a member of Saint Andrew's Scottish Heritage Society of South-West Nova Scotia, he served as a merchant seaman and was a former employee of the Dominion Atlantic Railway, Cosmos Imperial Mills and Fundy Group Publications (Vanguard). He is survived, and will be greatly missed, by his wife of 31 years, Betty Surette (Gillis); his sons, Tony, Ottawa; Charles, Truro; daughter, Shelly, Bonshaw, P.E.I.; five grandchildren; brothers, Kenneth, London, Ont.; Enos, Yarmouth; sister, Vivian D'Eon, West Pubnico; and stepsons, Greg Cook, Saint John; Gary Thruston, Amherst; Harry Thruston, Tidnish Bridge. He was predeceased by his first wife, Christine Doucette, and his brothers, George, James, Ralph, Gerald, and an infant sister, Roseline. Visitation was held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth. The funeral was held in Zion United Baptist Church, Yarmouth at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, Rev. Brian Wallace officiated. Interment followed in Town Point Cemetery, Chebogue. Donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. ISRAEL, Julia May - 84, of Torbrook Mines, NS, passed away Monday, June 4, 2007 in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Granville Center, NS, she was a daughter of the late Abram and Elizabeth (Morgan) Bent. Julia was a member of the Torbrook United Church, a lifetime member of the UCW and also a seamstress and quilter. Her family was the focus of her life. Julia is survived by son, David (Frances), Melvern Square; grand children, Mark (Wanda); Heather (Weston) Myatt; great grandchild, Alexander; sisters-in-law, Mary Bent, Granville Ferry; Lillian Roney, Port Royal, NS; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph; brothers, Harold Bent and Ewin Roney. Visitation was held Thursday, June 7, 2007 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, (902) 825-3448, where the funeral service was held Friday, June 8, 2007 Rev. Michael Mugford officiated. McDOW, Doris Helena - 87, of Kentville, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2007 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, after a long, eventful and determined life. Born in Hillsburn, Annapolis County, on July 28, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Wallace and Adray (Milbury) Longmire. Doris worked at the Nova Scotia Sanatorium and the Blanchard Fraser Memorial Hospital for 45 years retiring in 1984. She is survived by her husband, Oliver McDow and her daughter, Annette Longmire Cerchie of Granville Ferry. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Randy Cerchie, Cape Coral, Florida; Cynthia Cerchie Ligo, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Dino Cerchie, Mesa, Arizona; six great-grandchildren, Haley Leonard, Zander Cerchie, Thomas Cerchie, Taylor Cerchie, Hunter Ligo and Lexi Cerchie; three great-great-grandchildren, Emma, Zoie and Isaiah; two sisters, Emma Tavenor, Granville Ferry and Alberta Goucher, Kentville. She was predeceased by five sisters, Nina Casey, Lita Everett, Stella Richardson, Bessy Travis and Winefred O'Neil. There was no visitation by family request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held Saturday, June 9, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend John McNally officiated. A private family burial took place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. Family flowers only, by request. Everett, Garnet Raymond - 71, New Minas, born in Digby, died June 5 in Valley Regional Hospital. A Memorial service was held in Serenity Funeral Home and Crematorium. Cremation has taken place.

BLAUVELDT, Nathaniel Oscar - 82, born in Gavelton, peacefully passed away at 4:45 on Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital with family by his side. He was the son of the late Charles and Isalline (Wood). For several years he worked on the Dept. of Highways, the Railroad into the Round House, as well he worked with the N.S. Power Corp. He was an avid outdoorsman, who loved fishing and hunting. He had a very keen mind of history and many people called upon his information. He is predeceased by his beloved wife Isabelle, daughter Jean Walsh, son James Blauveldt, brother Frank Blauveldt and two nephews. He will be sadly missed by his family. Daughters, Kathleen and husband Charles Deveau, Rockville; Gertrude Muise and John Deveau, Tusket; sons, Oscar Muise and wife Patricia, SAR; Randell Blauveldt and his very close friend Jean Hurlburt, Yarmouth; Melvin Blauveldt and wife Marie, Yarmouth; Leroy, Ernest and George Blauveldt, Tusket; son-in-law Robert Walsh, Bridgewater; 12 grandchildren including Jimmy Walsh which was taken in by Nathaniel as one of his own; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Visitation was held Thursday, June 7, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Sweeny's Funeral Home. Funeral service was held Friday, June 8 at 2 p.m. in St. Stephen Anglican Church in Tusket, Father Tom Vaughan officiated. Burial took place in St. Stephen Anglican Parish Cemetery, Tusket. GALLAGHER, Neil A. - Age 74, of Sprucewood Drive, Yarmouth, died June 5, 2007, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in Rockville, Yarmouth Co., he was a son of the late James and Nema (Greenwood) Gallagher. Neil served in the militia from 1953-1955. He was a gunner in the RCHA from 1955-1964. He was stationed in Truro and later Camp Gagetown, N.B. He then served in the peace corps in the regular army in Germany. Neil traveled all over Europe with his wife and children. He worked at Jamesbury Corp. in the United States, and also as a part-time bus driver for handicapped adults. He moved back to his beloved birthplace in 1987. He made many trips to visit his son, daughter and grandchildren, who remained in the United States. He attended Yarmouth North United Baptist Church. He loved to hunt with his friends, and was known for his jokes and great sense of humour. He spent many long hours with his wharf rat friends and buddies whom he cherished dearly. Neil kept his flashlight to lead his way to heaven. Besides his mother, who resides in Massachusetts, U.S.A., Neil is survived by Joyce, his beloved wife and best friend for 57 years. He was a devoted father to daughters, Susan (Dennis Amon), Rockville, Yarmouth Co.; Darlene (Harry) Renaud, Massachusetts; son, Rodney (Barbara), Massachusetts; brother, Lester, Rockville; sisters, Marion Castonguay, Ann Pannini, both of Massachusetts; Joan Wood, Ontario; grandchildren, Scott, Neil, Corey, Brenda, Kelly, Sherri, Kimberly, Casey, Tyler, and 14 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by sister, Carol Penney, and infant sister, Vivian. Remains rested in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth, where visiting hours were held Thursday, June 7 from 7-9 p.m. and Friday, June 8, from 7-9 p.m. Funeral service was held Saturday, June 9, at 1 p.m. in Sweeny's Funeral Chapel, Rev. A.D. "Bill" Newell officiated. Burial was in Chegoggin Cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to the Lung Association of Nova Scotia or Yarmouth North United Baptist Church. AMERO, Marion Rita - 87, Pubnico, Yarmouth Co., passed away on Wednesday, June 6, 2007 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born May 15, 1920 in Yarmouth, she was a daughter of the late George and Frances (Doucette) Cook. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed picking blueberries, and planting flowers. Surviving are her children, Joseph (Donna) Amiro, Yarmouth; James Amero, Pubnico; G. Patrick (Beth) Amero, Kentville; Eileen Surette, Yarmouth; Catherine Murphy, Yarmouth; Wayne Amero, Pubnico; Agnes Amero, Yarmouth; 12 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Helen Amero, Sackville, NS; sister, Doris Frederickson, Spryfield. Besides his parents he was predeceased by her husband, Joseph F. Ameo; sister, Gladys Letteney; brothers, George Cook, Charles Cook; a son, David Amero. Visitation took place from 2-4 and 7-9 Friday, with prayers at 8 PM, both in H. M. Huskilson's Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth. The funeral mass was held at 1 PM, Saturday, June 9 from Saint Ambrose Cathedral, Albert Street, Yarmouth, Father John MacPherson officiated. Interment followed in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery. Davidge, Wendell Keith (Sab) - 55, of Sandford, Nova Scotia passed on June 6, 2007 at home after a 3 1/2 year struggle with follicular non-hodgkins lymphoma. An historian, teacher, author, actor (and director), Keith had a vast intellectual curiosity. A great sense of humour and a stalwart sense of fairness. He was a student of philosophy, religion, time, sports, history, drama, music, the sciences and staynge who enjoyed aikido and diving. He could discuss John Olerud and Oscar Robertson stats, Chaos theory, John Lennon songs, the American civil war, and build a cabin or corduroy road if one was needed. Keith grew up in New Brunswick and had degrees from UNB and the University of Maine (Presque Isle). He had a variety of work experiences from a pulp mill and fish farms in British Columbia to teaching all grades and subjects in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Keith is survived by his wife of 15 years, Heather Jones; his father Bob Davidge, Moncton, NB; brothers, Jim (Enid), Medicine Hat, AB; Doug (Jane), Ottawa, ON; and Brock (Karen), Keswick Ridge, NB; and several cherished nieces, nephews and cousins. He will also be deeply missed by his inlaws: Wayne and Janet Parker, Fredericton, NB; Chris (Ronda) Jones, Toronto, ON; and Stephen (Melissa) Jones, Nauwigewauk, NB. He was predeceased by his mother Dorothy Davidge and sister Lynn. Keith wanted to thank everyone who helped him in his battle against cancer, particularly Dr. David Webster. He also wanted to extend his gratitude to all those who accompanied him on his journey. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth.
