RECREATION REPORT

Walk Your Way Through Summer

This season the Region of Queens Recreation Department is proud to offer a three-month walking program to promote healthy living and community involvement. We hope our participants will reach an accumulative goal of 10,000 km, walked from June 1 to August 25. There will be monthly prize draws and a grand prize draw at the end of the program. There is no cost for registration. There will be a scheduled group walk every Thursday for those who wish to participate. Please contact the Recreation Department to register at 902-354-5741, or email info@regionofqueens.com.

Nova Scotia International Tattoo Bus Trip

Join the Recreation Department for the sights, sounds and pageantry of the Nova Scotia International Tattoo July 4. We will leave Liverpool at 3 p.m. on a fully appointed air-conditioned motor coach, stopping for supper on the way to the evening performance. Tickets are $60. Supper will be at Swiss Chalet in Bayers Lake Industrial Park and is not included in the ticket price. Call the Recreation Department to register at 902-354-5741.

Red Cross Swimming Lessons

Registration for Milton Centennial Pool and Mobile Aquatics for Sessions 1 and 2 will be taken on June 19 and June 20 from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Region of Queens Municipality Recreation Department at 249 White Point Road. Session 1 runs from July 2 to July 13 and Session 2 runs from July 16 to July 27. Registration fees are $30 per person per session or $72 per family per session. Waivers must be completed and payment is due at time of registration. First come first serve. Registration for Session 3 and 4 will be taken on July 24 and July 25. Registration for Sessions 1 and 2 at the North Queens Aquatic Centre will be taken on June 19 and June 20 at the pool (times will be announced at a later date).

Kidsport Applications

Applications for Kidsport funding are being accepted until July. Contact the Recreation Dept. for applications and further information, or contact David Wagg, Kidsport Coordinator at 425-5450, ext. 350.

Scavenger Hunt & Run, Pine Grove

Hey kids! Take some time out to explore Pine Grove Park in Milton during a 1-4 p.m. June 27 scavenger hunt and race! This day of fun is open to children aged 6 through 13 and will run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $3 per person. Please pre-register with the Recreation Department at 354-5741 by June 25. And remember to wear appropriate clothing and sneakers for the race!

Race for the Rest of Us!

On July 8, slip on your running shoes and try to catch our pirate! You can dress up in your craziest outfit and if you can catch our pirate you'll also catch a prize! The first 50 people to pre-register with the Recreation Department at 354-5741 by July 5 will receive a free T-shirt! The race is for ages 16 years and up. Cost to participate is $10 per person. On race day registration will take place in Privateer Park in the Beer Tent at 9 a.m.
