POWER, Thelma May - 87, Tidal View Manor/Pembroke, passed away May 31, 2007, in the manor. Born in Chegoggin, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Gertrude (Moses) Hazelton. Thelma worked at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital for several years. She was a member of West Yarmouth United Baptist Church, Rebecca Lodge, Yarmouth, and Pembroke 50 Plus Club. She is survived by her daughter, Beverly (Benjamin) Hamilton, South Ohio; sons, Kenneth (Debbie Atwood) and Harold (Cindy), both of Pembroke; brothers, Kenneth, Chegoggin; Bernard, Trenton, Ont.; Leonard, Yarmouth; Reigh, Chegoggin; sisters, Mildred, New Germany; Evelyn, Dartmouth; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Bernard; sister, Ardella; brother, Prescott, and a brother and sister in infancy. Visitation was held Friday, June 1 from 7-9 p.m. in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth, where the funeral took place Saturday, June 2 at 2 p.m., Rev. A.D. “Bill” Newell officiated. Walter Arrie Roderick Reeves – 55, of New Minas, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2007 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Cambridge Station, he was a son of the late George and Florence (Usher) Reeves. He had been a mechanic and enjoyed woodworking. Walter was a kind and generous person who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, the former Linda Blenkhorn; a son, Jeffery, Comox, British Columbia; a daughter, Katherine Reeves (Steve Vernie), Montreal; four brothers, Ron (Marilyn), Berwick; Leon (Pat), Harold (Ruth) and Henry (Fran), all of Cambridge; two sisters, Shirley (Leroy) Connors, Cambridge; Evelyn (Ralph) Sabean, Berwick; a granddaughter, Sophia. He was predeceased by a sister, Betty Reeves. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Sunday, June 3, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 4, 2007, Reverend Robert Billings officiated. STROWBRIDGE, Doris Gene, 79, of Shelburne, formerly of Lockeport, passed away in Roseway Manor on Monday, May 28, 2007. Born in Lockeport, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Gladys (Roache) MacKenzie. She was a member of the United Baptist Church, Lockeport. Doris is survived by her husband, Stanley, Roseway Manor; daughters, Beatrice (Tom) Rose, Shelburne; Sheila (Armand) Smith, Lockeport; Deborah (Robert) Smith, Bedford; Donna (Joseph) Silver, Springfield; sons, Robert, Dartmouth; David (Shirley), Port L'Herbert; sisters, Frances (Edgar) Holmes, Sandy Point; Shirley (Curtis) Deare, Lockeport; Gloria (Norman) Cameron, Woodlawn Drive, Shelburne; brothers, Edward (Helen) MacKenzie, Riverview N.B; Robert (Caroline) MacKenzie, Riverview, N.B; many nieces and nephews; 21 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. Doris was predeceased by infant son, Gordon; son, William "Billy"; granddaughter, Tina; grandson, Steven. Cremation has taken place under the direction of H.M. Huskilson's Funeral Home, Shelburne. Gordon Lewis Meister - of Pembroke, Ontario, passed away at his home on May 29, 2007 following a brief illness. Born in Kentville, he was a son of the late Ralph and Muriel (Margeson) Meister. In the early 1940's, he joined the Canadian Army and served overseas during the Second World War. Following the war, he was discharged and returned to Kentville. He then moved to Ontario to work in the Sudbury mines for several years. He rejoined the Canadian Army and was posted overseas again to serve in various locations on special duties. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Myrtle (Thorpe) of Pembroke; a brother, Robert "Gus" (Janet), Kentville; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Edna; brothers, Douglas, and Fred (killed in action during the Second World War and was the recipient of the military medal). CROWELL, Helen Marguerite, 61, Barrington, died on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 in the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in Barrington Passage, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Martha (Hopkins) Nickerson. She is survived by husband Sherod and children, Darlene Nordstrom (Don), Calgary, and Bill Crowell, Barrington; grandchildren, Dillon Garland, Stoney Island and Ella Crowell, Moncton. She was predeceased by brother, David (Lynn) Nickerson, Woods Harbour and was lovingly supported by brothers Ralph Nickerson, Barrington Passage and Russell (Sharon) Nickerson, Woods Harbour; sisters, Annie Marie (Ronald) Knox, Barrington Passage and Sylvia (Bill) Symonds, Newellton; and cousin Ronnie (Anita) Hopkins, North East Point. She was comforted by visits from extended family, many caring friends and co-workers from Wilson's Shopping Center. The funeral service was held on Saturday, June 2, at Huskilson's Funeral Home, with internment at the Riverdale Cemetery, Barrington. Donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Yarmouth Regional Hospital Auxiliary, in heartfelt appreciation of the compassionate care received by nursing staff of the third and fourth floors and the palliative care team.
Cecil "Buster" Alec MacIntosh, age 65, of Hebron, Yarmouth County, formerly of Falmouth, Hants County, passed away on Wednesday, May 30, 2007, in the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born on April 6, 1942, in Wolfville, Kings County, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Lottie (Harvie) MacIntosh. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, the former Charlene Cochrane; his children, Kenneth, Melody, Sarajane (Byron), Linda (Maurice) and Benjamin (Kyla); grandchildren, Chelsea, Jessica, Mackenzie, Bennet, Zoee, Charli, Allie, Jackson and a baby on the way; sisters, Rita Laffin, Sadie (Sam) Blunden, Darlene (Keith) Keddy, Barb (Wayne) Garding, Marjorie McBay and Mary McBay; brother, Kenneth (Nancy) McBay. STEWART, Douglas Howard, 67, South Ohio, Yarmouth County, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 31, 2007 at Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in Yarmouth, he was the only son of the late Lois (Crouse) and Douglas Stewart Sr. of Yarmouth and formerly of Shelburne. He was employed for a few years at Cosmo Imperial Mills Ltd., Yarmouth, N.S. He then attended and graduated from the Maritime Police Academy in Halifax. His Police work involved being located in Halifax, Shelburne, Hantsport and he became the Chief of Police in Shelburne. He was also a member of the R.C.M.P. Auxiliary Police Force and the Shelburne Fire Department. Leaving police work in 1975, he became manager of the Nova Scotia Liquor Commission in Shelburne. He owned and operated the Loyalist Inn with his family, and also the Cape Cod Colony Motel until 1997. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patricia (Brittain); daughters, Debra (Gerald) Murphy, Dartmouth; Stephanie (Michael) Peterson, Shelburne; Pamela (Russell) Acker, Shelburne; Phyllis MacConnell, Halifax; sons, Kevin (Brenda) Sarnia, Ont; Derrick (Brenda) Dartmouth; sisters, Beverley (Brian) MacKenzie, Lower Argyle; Kathyrn Bell Pitman, Halifax; twelve grandchildren, five great-grandsons and one great granddaughter. HENSHAW, Darrell "Buddy" Bruce Llewellyn - 78, Waldec, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on Thursday, May 31, 2007 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on October 15, 1928 in Digby County, N.S. he was a son of the late Llewellyn and Gertrude (Vantassel) Henshaw. Buddy was a kind man with a generous heart who lived one day at a time, and who wanted very little from life. He was employed with the Department of Highways for a number of years, and was known to be an excellent welder. As a young man, Buddy enjoyed stock car racing, and he also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He led a very interesting and colorful life and will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his common-law wife, Carol Hewey and a sister Phyllis Harvey. Buddy is survived by daughters Julia MacAlpine, Fredericton; Cassandra Cropley (Russell), Torbrook; son Gregory Henshaw (Melody), Bear River East, step-children Anita Morgan-Wentzell (Peter), Wilmot; Susan Gillis, Halifax; Terry Morgan (Elisa), Waldec; and Larry Morgan (Christine), Bear River East. Also surviving are sister Regina Ruggles (Walter), Bear River, and brothers Glendon Henshaw (Erna), Deep Brook; and Calvin Henshaw (Eileen), Upper Clements, 12 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. At Buddy's request there will be no visitation or funeral service. His life will be celebrated and his ashes spread in Victory, Nova Scotia at a small gathering of family and friends at a later date. The family announces with great sorrow the passing of Carolyn Jodouin-Patry (Murley), 64, of Timmins. Carolyn passed away Thursday, May 31, 2007 in her home. Born in Digby on Oct. 30, 1942 to Cecil and Fanny Murley, she was the first twin born in Digby General followed five minutes later by her sister Cathy. Carolyn was a loving wife to Robert Patry, a caring mother to her children, Timm (David) and Lisa (Kyle), all from Timmins. She was also a beloved grandmother to Arron and Kira (Timmins) and Wyatt (Vancouver). She is survived by her sister, Cathy Gable (Norman), Coquitlam, B.C., three step-sons Mike (Erin) of Timmins, Marc (Lisa) and Donald of Vancouver and many close relatives and friends. She is predeceased by her parents Cecil and Fanny Murley (Digby). Visitation took place on Monday June 4 at Lessard-Stephens Funeral Home, 21 Elm Street S., Timmins, ON. A memorial service was held Tuesday, June 5 in Lessard-Stephens Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Andy Tollock officiated. Cremation has taken place under the care of Lessard-Stephens Funeral Home.
