Trevor Charles Brewster — 45, of Cole Harbour, formerly of Brooklyn, Queens County, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2007, in Dartmouth. Born in Liverpool, he was the son of Alfred and Theresa (Whynot) Brewster, of Brooklyn. He was an employee of the Steak & Stein Restaurant for 24 years. He loved pets of all kinds, especially his dog, Polar. Trevor loved to travel. He had a green thumb and loved all aspects of gardening. He is survived by his sister, Robenia of Dartmouth; god-child, Drake; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. A Celebration of Trevor’s Life was held Wednesday, May 16, from Trinity Anglican Church, Liverpool; Rev. Arthur Nash officiating. Burial in the Seaside Cemetery, Brooklyn. Family flowers only. Charmaine Beatrice (Levy) Marshall - 41, Bridgetown, Annapolis Co., formerly of Aylesford, Kings Co. Funeral service was held 3:30 p.m. Saturday May 12, in the H.C. Gary W. Wentzell — 49, of Milton, Queens County, died Thursday, May 10, 2007 in V.G. Site QEII Health Science Centre, Halifax. Born in Liverpool, he was a son of Maxine A. (Whynot) Wentzell of Halifax and the late Leaman H. Wentzell. Gary was a former cartographer and worked for various companies. He was into genealogy and was building databases on many families. He loved music and reading and watching television shows on the PBS network. He “never stopped learning”. He was a member of the Milton Heritage Society. Surviving, besides his mother, are his wife, the former Yvonne Haylett; daughter Jessica, at home; brother, David (Kathy) of Caledonia, Ont.; and nephews, Steven and Kyle. Funeral service was Monday, May 14 in Chandlers’ Funeral Chapel, Liverpool; Rev. Jennifer Garbin officiated. Burial in Milton Community Cemetery. Donations may be made to P.A.N.S. or any charity. DEVEAU, Leo Antoine - 78, St. Alphonse, passed away May 10, 2007, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. He was born in Lake Doucette, a son of the late Pierre Martin and Marie Jeanne (Saulnier) Deveau. Leo was a truck driver most of his working life and also worked for A.F. Theriault and Sons Ltd. for over 30 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Conseil Sigogne 6348, Comeauville. He is survived by wife, Antoinette; brothers, Emile (Corinne), Toronto, and William (Phyllis), Lake Doucette; sister-in-law, Evangeline Deveau, Lake Doucette. He was predeceased by brother, George. Visitation was held Sunday, May 13 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Meteghan Funeral Home. Funeral was held 11 a.m. Monday, May 14 in St. Alphonse Church, Rev. Albeni d'Entremont officiated. SMITH, Leland Howard”Bus” - 77, Port Maitland, passed away May 11, 2007, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in 1929 in Port Maitland, he was a son of the late Ira and Laura (Spinney) Smith. Leland worked as a fisherman for several years, and in 1956, attended Yarmouth Vocational School where he studied carpentry. He worked at Yarmouth Regional Hospital in the maintenance department as a carpenter and a stationary engineer for approximately 30 years. Leland attended Beaver River Baptist Church. He enjoyed camping and hunting with his friends and his sons. Leland is survived by his wife, Florence (MacDonald) Smith, Port Maitland; sons, Gary (Heidi), Steve, both of Cedar Lake, Yarmouth Co.; granddaughters, Cailen and Jamie Smith; brother, Bernard (Mildred); sisters, Dorothy Ellis, Edna (Jack) Churchill, all of Port Maitland. Visitation was held Sunday, May 13 from 7-9 p.m. and funeral service was held Monday, May 14, at 2 p.m., Rev. Don Moses officiated, both in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth. ATKINSON, Edwin Clinton - 91, Argyle, Yarmouth Co., passed away May 11, 2007, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in Cape Sable Island, he was a son of the late Fred and Muriel (Swim) Atkinson. A veteran of the Second World War and a former air force serviceman, he worked for CNR for over 30 years in the foreman section. He is survived by his daughter, Joan (Leland) Donaldson, Lower Argyle; son, Arthur (Beth), Alberta; sister, Virginia (George) Surette, Eel Brook; grandchildren, Richard (Debbie), Lower Argyle; Patricia (Walter) Muise, New Brunswick; Charlene (Anson) d'Entremont, Argyle Sound; Bonnie (Brian) Crooks, Hubley, Halifax Co.; Kelly, Shauna, and Scott; 15 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret; grandson, David; brothers, Ivan and Neil; sister, Edith. Funeral was held Monday, May 14 at 2 p.m. in Argyle Historical Church, Rev. JACQUARD, Earl Georges – 82, Comeau’s Hill, Yarmouth Co., passed away on Friday, May 11, 2007 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born July 15, 1924, he was a son of the late Samuel and Rebecca (Fitzgerald) Jacquard. Earl was a retired fisherman, and he enjoyed gardening, hunting, and reading in his later years. His mouth-organ provided his family and friends hours of entertainment. He is survived by his children, James (Marion), Ada (Richard) O’Connell, Neree, Jerome, Wallace, all of Comeau’s Hill; Joseph, Fort Lauderdale, Fla; Cheryl (Rich) Irving, Halifax; 14 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers, Bernard, Lawrence, Francis; sisters, Doris Fitzgerald, Frances “Flossie” Saulnier, Mary LeBlanc, and Theresa Harris. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Pauline (Surette) Jacquard; brothers, James, in infancy, Thomas, Ernest; sisters, Viola Cottreau, Rose DeViller. Visitation was held Monday from 7 to 9, with prayers at 8 PM, both in H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert St. Yarmouth. The funeral mass was held at 11 AM, Tuesday, May 15, from Saint Gabriel’s Catholic Church, Comeau’s Hill, Father Wieslaw Papuga officiated. Interment followed in the parish cemetery. Comeau, Louis H. – 72 formerly of Saulnierville, died May 11 in Exeter Hospital. A private service was held. The burial was held in New Hampshire State Veterans’ Cemetery, in Boscawen.

Hicks, Lloyd Russell – 84 of Digby, died at home. Funeral was held at Trinity Anglican Church, Digby. Interment in Bayview Cemetery.

NEWELL, Elizabeth Jean “Betty” - Died in Yarmouth on May 12, 2007. Betty was born on August 23, 1929, a daughter of the late Frank and Jean (Burrell) Allen. Besides her parents, Betty was predeceased by her husband, Wilbert “Brownie” Newell, and her brother, Raymond “Ray”. Surviving are her brother, Ross and his family; sister-in-law, Thelma Allen and her family. Also surviving are numerous cousins and her dear friend, Blanche (Bernie) Firth. A lifelong resident of Yarmouth, Betty will be remembered fondly by her many friends. She had an avid interest in genealogy, authored and co-authored two books of family history, and volunteered for many years at the Yarmouth County Museum. Each year Betty eagerly looked forward to springtime, when she would head for her camp the ”Dew Drop Inn”. She spent many happy hours there and enjoyed the birds, hummingbirds and squirrels that came to visit the “always full” feeders. She always enjoyed the company of visiting relatives and friends who never left without a hug and a cup of tea or coffee. She will be greatly missed by those who shared her love of walking, reading, watching favourite TV programs, playing cards and exchanging correspondence. A graveside Committal Service was held in Arcadia Cemetery Tuesday, May 15 at 2 p.m., Rev. Brian Wallace officiated. Donations may be made to the Tri County Victorian Order of Nurses or Zion United Baptist Church, Yarmouth. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth.
