Plans for the two-day tall ships festival are underway and the Shelburne area Chamber of Commerce has recently sponsored the committee allowing them the necessary aid to move forward.

“It will be a quite exciting event,” said President of the Shelburne Chamber of Commerce, Elizabeth Rhuland.

A mixture of A and B class ships will be visiting Shelburne July 18 and 19 and will include historical ships such as the Prince William, Spirit of Bermuda, Bowdoin States and Roseway States.

“The two-day, wharf-side festival will include food, crafts and entertainment,” said Timothy Gillespie, committee member for the tall ships festival.

There will be ship visits on the first day from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and the second day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“People will have an opportunity to go on the ships, talk with the crew and explore the ships history.”

On July 18 there will be a sponsors reception for the Captains and crews held at the Sea Dog Saloon and an open party beginning at 9:00 p.m. that will include a dance accompanied by live music.

Up to 60 boats will also be visiting during the festival from the Cruising Club of America.

Tickets to the wharf-side festival will be $2.00 for adults and $1.00 for children and Ship visits, which include admission to the wharf-side festival, will be $5.00 for adults and children under the age of 12 free and family’s pass to all attractions costing $15.00.

Over 3,000 people visited the tall ships during the last visit in 2006 and Gillespie is assured the festival to be an excellent economic driver for the county.
