Carpentry class nails challenge for Loyalist booth
It took about two months for first-year carpentry students at the Nova Scotia Community College Burridge campus to cleverly fill a tall order from the Loyalist Landing 2008 Society.
The society approached the class with a request for an easily dismantled booth they could use to promote their Shelburne County-based event around the province.
“This is not really building, it’s more critical thinking on how they are going to take it apart,” said carpentry faculty Gregg Surette.
“They had to redesign it a few times because of the problems they encountered.”
The completed 4 x 6 x 7 foot booth has detachable components that enable quick dismantling and assembly.
Douglas Langley, chair of the society’s promotion and retail sales committee, says the booth will be painted in traditional loyalist colours and that the Privateer Days in Liverpool in July will likely be the first event they attend.
Ven-Rez Products Ltd. in Shelburne donated wood for the project, Kent Home Improvement donated paint and Timber Mart supplied hardware.
“The design is ideal for our needs and I expect the booth will get lots of use over the next year, during 2008 and beyond,” said Langley.
