Mikado is a fun, comical, musically upbeat love story that tells the tale of a love triangle between Nanki-Poo, his beloved maiden Yum-Yum and Ko-Ko the Lord High Executioner of Titipu.
The original opera created by Gilbert and Sullivan and adapted by the Basement Theatre in Shelburne promises to be a night filled with entertainment and laughter.

“We want to bring as much slapstick and foolishness to Shelburne in the traditional Basement Theatre way,” says director Alison Stanton.

The play has a full cast of 17 villagers in the choir, 15 cast, 5 set designers, 2 costume designers, 2 directors and a producer.

The talented musical director Bill Smith has choreographed the cast to bring an exciting flow to the program that will be sure to captivate the audience throughout the fun spirited tale.

Mikado will show at the Osprey Theatre in Shelburne on May 25, 26, 27 and June 1, 2, 3 and tickets can be purchased at the Whirligig bookstore in Shelburne.

“They’re going fast,” says Stanton, “so don’t wait too late or they’ll be gone.”
