The provincial government included the Shelburne County Arena Association in their allocation of funds to go towards improving and building sport and recreation facilities on the South Shore.
Of the $471,000, the arena will receive $117,000 over a span of five years.
The funds will match the $117,000 both the Municipality of Shelburne and the town of Shelburne have already agreed to pay with each giving $12,000 per year.
A study was completed last year on what upgrades to the arena would be necessary to keep the facility running in good order.
According to board member, Tony Mahaney, the association has hopes to receive a further $117,000 from the Federal Government before beginning the much-needed renovations outlined in the study.
“The largest capital layout and most needy renovation will be the roof at $100,000,” said Mahaney.
The arena is home to many activities including hockey and curling.
