ALARM AT COLONY
A 6:29 a.m. alarm at the Colony Motel on Forest Street, April 29 resulted in a very little fire and enough smoke to evacuate the building. Apparently a malfunctioning furnace was the cause. Guests and employees were allowed back into the building in short time after the department investigated and determined everything was safe.
SYMPATHY
A large gathering of family and friends along with members of the Yarmouth Fire Department paid their respects to the late Norma Jean Muise last Wednesday, May 2. Norma is a sister of YFD captain Blair Deveau. Our sympathy to the family.
BUILDING SAFETY WEEK
The Nova Scotia premier has proclaimed May 6 to 12 as Building Safety Week. The theme of the week is "Inspections for the Protection" the Department of Environment and Labour in partnership with the alliance of Canadian Building Officials Association and the Nova Scotia Building Officials Association organize an annual building week to draw attention to the important role municipal officials do in making all buildings in our community safe. This proclamation was signed in Halifax by Mark Parent, Minister of Environment and Labour and Rodney MacDonald, Premier of Nova Scotia.
LEAGUE BOWLING
Another close match during the "B" section playoffs decided the winner last week. The 3 of 5 games with East Pubnico squeezing by Carleton 1459-1444. George Larking of East Pubnico was top bowler with a 116 single and 332 triple. This ends bowling until fall. A closing banquet will be held in the near future.

The annual conference and semi-annual meeting of the Fire Service Association of Nova Scotia held their meets in the Bible Hill Fire Brigade Hall during the weekend of April 27-28-29. Various speakers were heard, Fire Marshal's awards banquet was held and a n important items were discussed. Several county departments were in attendance. The association was presented with a $12,500 cheque from the Nova Scotia government to help meet expenses.
DATE IN HISTORY
May 13, 2004 - A home at 477 Mood Rd., was totally destroyed as fire raged through the wooden structure. The owners were not at home at the time. The YFD answered the 12:31 a.m. page with Engine 4, tankers 20 and 22, Unit 14 and Rescue 26. The portable pump was placed at the lake’s edge to help.
