Three Wilmot area girls are putting their beadwork on the bandwagon to help find a cure for cancer.

Eden Burke, Allyson Evans, and Lauren Wentzell, all 10 years old, have been busy beading to support a friend and neighbour at this year’s Relay for Life.

The girls’ mothers have been on Heather Green’s relay team for the past four years. Green, a friend, neighbour and a cancer survivor, has become the inspiration behind the girls’ latest jewelry designs.

The girls have been batty for beads ever since they attended a jewelry-making birthday party in November.

Eden’s mother, Angela, said that the girls’ beadwork had become so prolific that they began looking for ways of reducing their inventory.

"There were a lot of Christmas gifts this year," she said, with a smile. And whenever the girls get money, it’s frequently spent at the supply store, Beads, Etc. on "more beads."

Recently the girls have been selling their jewelry to raise money for the Relay for Life fundraiser in Middleton on June 8.

So far, their colourful earrings, bracelets, and necklaces have raised about $500. Their work is for sale at Beads, Etc.. And at Amy’s Creative Embroidery, beside Green Leaf Enterprises in Wilmot.

It will also be available at the Evans family yard sale at 13838 Highway 1 in Wilmot, on May 12.

Lauren added that she also hopes to have a table set up at the upcoming Port George Jamboree.
