SAULNIER, Lucy A. – 92, Bangor Digby County, died May 6, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Funeral was held in St. Vincent de Paul Church, Salmon River. Interment in the parish cemetery.

Murray Hall Boland – 80, of Wolfville, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2007 at home. Born in Lawrencetown, Annapolis County on June 25, 1926, he was the son of the late Gordon and Minnie (Hall) Boland. He spent his working life in retail business, served on the Wolfville Town Council and the Kings County Amalgamated School Board. He enjoyed his home, gardening and reading. He is survived by his wife, Joan (Stephens); two sons, David, Calgary and Dr. Greg, Fergus, Ontario; two granddaughters, Beverley and April; two great grandsons, Sebastian and Warren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Lorraine Young. It was Murray’s request that there be no visitation and the service be held at the graveside. The graveside service was held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 9, 2007 in the Willowbank Cemetery, Wolfville, Reverend Doctor Barry Morrison officiated. Jessica Caitlyn Barnett –17, of Wolfville, Kings County, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2007 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, with her boyfriend and her brother by her side. Born in Victoria, British Columbia, she was a daughter of Philip and Tanya Barnett, Wolfville. She was a grade 12 student at Horton High School, Greenwich, and was recently accepted into the Child and Youth Counseling Program at the Nova Scotia Community College in Truro. She had been employed at Sobey’s and also taught dance at the Rhythm and Soul Studio, Wolfville. When not teaching dance, she enjoyed dancing herself and spent many evenings at the studio. She was kind-hearted, had a big smile and enjoyed helping others, especially the under dog. She had also been involved in summer soccer. She had a love for her five cats including her favorite, Aires. In addition to her parents, she is survived by a brother, Brant (Jaymie Illsley), Wolfville; a sister, Mikaela, at home; her boyfriend, Ryan Harvey, Falmouth; maternal grandparents, Bob and Sandy Rempel, Victoria, British Columbia; maternal great grandfather, John Hunter, Duncan, British Columbia; several aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family members. She was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Geoffrey and Kay Barnett. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 10, 2007, Pastor Andy Northup officiated. Gladys Beck - 85, South Berwick, Kings Co., passed away Sunday May 6, 2007, in the Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, she was a daughter of the late Peter and Janet Grieve. Gladys was a war bride, meeting her husband during the second world war. She came to Canada on the ship Empire Brent, arriving at Pier 21 in Halifax. She was a devoted wife, mother & grandmother and enjoyed knitting slippers. Gladys was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Newburne, Lunenburg Co. Surviving are her husband of 61 years, Ray John Beck, South Berwick; sons, Raymond Beck, Aylesford; Peter Beck, at home, South Berwick; daughter, Kathy (Bruce) Franey, Aylesford East; grandchildren, Alicia, Jennifer & Ryan; brother, Joe Grieve, England; sister, Ina Stobie, Scotland; numerous nieces & nephews in the U.K., Canada, U.S.A. & Australia. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, William in infancy; Peter, Henry “Sonny”; sisters, Elizabeth in infancy; Jennie, Cathie, Ruby, Louise, Mamie, Sheila & Annie. There was visitation for Gladys 7-9 p.m. Tuesday May 8, in the H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick, N.S., B0P 1E0, (902-538-9900), from where the funeral service was held 2 p.m. Wednesday May 9. Chaplain Mary Anne Doherty-Fleet officiated. ACKER, Annie Pearl - daughter of the late Benjamin and Elizabeth White of New Germany slipped away 10 minutes after 2 p.m. 6 May, 2007. Annie was born 12 May, 1907 in New Germany and moved to the Valley with her husband, Earl, around 1930. She worked hard all her life and at the age of 80 she became a world traveler. Even though she never went to school, she often traveled alone. She traveled to London, England and had tea inside Buckingham Palace and watched the changing of the guards from the steps of the palace. She later attended the Queen’s garden party. She toured Europe via train and returned to Canada on the QEII. She also made several trips to Winnipeg, Ottawa and holidayed in Jamaica and Barbados. Annie lived life to the fullest, she loved to knit, crochet, garden and bake. She was predeceased by her husband Earl, 20 Aug, 1968. She will be sadly missed by her family: daughter, Rosalie, and Marcel Choiniere, Winnipeg, granddaughters, Anne, and George Hebert, Winnipeg, great-grandchildren David and Michael; granddaughter, Diane, and Robert deGrass, Denver, CO, †great-grandchildren Sierra, Chloe and Justine; son, Earl, and Margaret (Archibald), Bear River, granddaughter, Mary Ann, and Terry Koch, Ottawa, great-grandson, Kenneth, grandson, James Earl Alan Acker, and Gigi (Esnard), Ottawa, great-grandchildren, Jessica and Daniel. SWEENEY, Vernon Lloyd - 83, Yarmouth, passed away May 6, 2007, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in Yarmouth on October 15, 1923, he was a son of the late Gordon and Matilda (Crosby) Sweeney. Vernon was member of Yarmouth Wesleyan Church. He was a farmer all his working life. Vernon also worked for the Yarmouth Ferry Terminal as well as Zellers store. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Vernon is survived by his wife, Lila (Peters) (Burgess) Sweeney, Yarmouth; daughters, Elaine (Wayne) Kehoe, Yarmouth; Barbara Sweeney, Harborside, Yarmouth; sons, Don (Sheila), Hamilton, Ont.; Kendall (Elizabeth), Stewiacke; sister-in-law, Eleanor Sweeney; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Vernon was predeceased by his first wife, Alda (Tidd) Sweeney; son, Robert; brothers, Leonard (Caroline), Clayton (Ruby), and Ivan; sisters, Margaret (Gordon) Smith, Mildred (Howard) Pratt, and Mabel (Fred) Rose. BOURQUE, Marie “Millie” - 76, Yarmouth, passed away May 7, 2007, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born on July 15, 1930, in Plymouth, she was a daughter of the late Levi and Loretta (Muise) Bourque. Millie attended the Yarmouth Wesleyan Church. In her younger years, she worked at Bonda Textiles. She also tended children. Millie loved blueberry and strawberry picking and being in her garden. She loved animals and enjoyed baking and being with her family. She was a delightful lady who was loved by many. Millie always had lots of energy and was always on the go! Millie is survived by daughter, Rebecca Bourque, Yarmouth; brother, Eugene (Catherine), Plymouth; sister, Madeline (Ambrose) Maillet, Ontario; and her second family, Delta and Franklyn Moulaison, Cora Panter and Eileen Surette; along with four stepbrothers and sisters, and seven half-brothers and sisters. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by Stan Moulaison Jr. and Stan Moulaison Sr. Funeral service took place Wednesday, May 9 at 2 p.m. in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Rev. Bill Newell officiated. Elroy Prior Conrad — 89, of Mount Pleasant, Queens County, passed away Monday, May 7, 2007, in the Queens General Hospital, Liverpool. Born in Liverpool, he was the son of the late Everett and Merna (Baker) Conrad. Elroy was a loving husband and father, taking pride in his family and their accomplishments. He started working at a young age and spent over 40 years at Bowater Mersey. An electrician by trade, he was a jack-of-all-trades in practice. Elroy enjoyed the outdoors, carpentry, and watching squirrels and birds in his backyard. He delighted in being a grandfather and great-grandfather. In his younger years, he loved to travel, camping with his family whenever he could. Family cruises to the Mediterranean and the Baltic seas were his fondest recent memories. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mildred (Nowe); daughter, Linda Christiani of London, England; sons Gregory (Lin) of Liverpool and Reid (Sharilyn) of Liverpool; grandchildren: Nicholas, Maren and Laurel; great-grandson, Jarrod; sister, Phyllis Conrad of Liverpool. He was predeceased by his younger brother, Gerald. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 15, at 11 a.m., from Trinity Anglican Church, Liverpool; Rev. Arthur Nash officiating. Philip Francis Caul – 87, of New Minas, passed away Monday, May 7, 2007 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on April 17, 1920 in Bar Haven, Placentia Bay, Newfoundland, he was a son of the late Richard and Annie (Brown) Caul. Philip spent the majority of his life in Stephenville, Newfoundland and had been the owner and operator of Caul Agency, distributors of Molson and Pepsi products. He was a 4th degree member of Knights of Columbus and was involved with the Lions Club of Stephenville, Newfoundland as a life-member. He enjoyed sports of all kinds, including darts, curling, bowling and baseball. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 58 years, the former Rosella Pomeroy; four daughters, Jane (Lionel) Churchill, Labrador City; Maureen (Paul) Abbott, Port au Port, Newfoundland; Charlotte (Paul) Benjamin and Sharon (Marlon) Hatt, both of New Minas; two sons, Philip Caul Jr., Stephenville; Michael (Angela) Caul, New Minas; precious grandchildren, Kelly, Janine, Damien, Tara, Justin and T.J.; step-grandchildren, Melissa, Chyenne and Ashley; adored great granddaughter, Madison; step-great grandson, Jonathan; sister, Nellie; sisters-in-law, Nellie Caul and Elizabeth Byrne; brother-in-law, James (Mary) Pomeroy; a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by a brother, Pius on September 21, 2006. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2007 with prayers held at 8:00 p.m. in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Mary Elizabeth “Betty” (Shea) Nutter – 83, widow of the late George Harry Nutter, passed away Monday, May 7, 2007 in Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville. Born in Saint John, New Brunswick, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Rose (McGuiggan) Shea. She grew up on Rockland Road attended Holy Trinity School and St. Vincent’s High and worked in the Bank of Nova Scotia, Charlotte Street Branch from 1941 until her marriage in 1951. She raised four children and took great pride in assisting her husband with his banking career by entertaining staff and customers. During her married life of 47 years, she lived in New York, Montreal, Renfrew, Barrie and Toronto before settling in Dartmouth in the late 1960’s. She was active in the Dartmouth Kiwanis Club Ladies Auxiliary, the Dartmouth Curling Club and St. Peter’s Church. She is survived by her daughter, Rose (Kevin) Spicer, Kentville; her sons, Ernest (Lyndsay) Nutter, Toronto; Larry Nutter, Dartmouth; her sisters, Helen Crowley, Rothesay, New Brunswick; Natalie (Dr. George) Battcock, St. John’s, Newfoundland; her grandchildren, Bridget and Michael Spicer. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry; her son, Kevin; her sister, Connie Shea; her brother, Kevin Shea. The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to all the front-line care professionals for your hard work and many kindnesses to Mom in her final years. Special thanks to Ruth O’Hara, a dear friend and truly gifted caregiver. A memorial service and interment will take place at a later date in Saint John.
