“Music Monday” was held across the country for the third time since it was launched in 2005 by the Coalition for Music Education in Canada.
Over 450 students at Dr. John C. Wickwire Academy belted out lyrics to “Our Song” while holding green and blue streamers.
Music teacher, Andrea Crouse said she tried to hold “Music Monday” last year but due to an injury it had to wait, making this the first year the school has participated.
The whole idea of “Music Monday” she explained, is to celebrate the importance of music in Canada, and also focus on the importance of music in a child’s education.
“I want our kids to also realize that they are part of a bigger world,” said Crouse.
By participating in this countrywide concert, students learned about time zones and how children in Vancouver were able to sing with them.
“I got shivers when they were singing today,” Crouse said at the thought of children singing this exact song right across Canada at that very moment.
As part of “Music Monday” Crouse decided to also hold a talent show, which lasted the majority of the day.
