Horton boys continue to set rugby standard

Horton continues to set the pace in the boys’ division of the Valley High School Rugby League, remaining undefeated following a pair of wins last week.
The Griffins shut out Central Kings 40-0 Tuesday at Horton and then topped Avon View 27-5 Thursday in Windsor to improve their record to six wins and one tie. Horton had scored 221 points in its seven games and allowed only 28.
In other boys’ action last week, West Kings squared its record at 3-3 with a 15-3 win Tuesday at Kings-Edgehill, and the Middleton boys also improved to 3-3 with a 29-3 win over Digby in Middleton.
The boys’ standings entering play this week saw Horton first at 6-0-1 for 13 points and Avon View second at 4-2-1 for nine points. Central Kings, West Kings and Middleton all had 3-3 records for six points, Kings-Edgehill was 2-4 and Digby remained winless at 0-5.
In girls’ play Tuesday, Kings-Edgehill shut out West Kings 20-0 in Windsor, Horton and Central Kings played to a 5-5 tie and the Avon View ‘B’ team topped Middleton 24-5. On Thursday, Avon View edged West Kings 10-7 in a close encounter in Windsor.
Entering play Tuesday, Avon View ‘A’ topped the girls’ standings at 5-1 for 10 points. West Kings and Kings-Edgehill were tied for second with eight points, with West Kings at 4-2 and Kings-Edgehill at 4-1.
Middleton stood at 1-4-1, Central Kings at 0-3-2 and Horton 0-4-1. Avon View ‘B’, whose points don’t count toward the regional or provincial championship, had three wins and three losses for six points.
