Hitch in the get-along
Monday
Ahhhh... life’s little luxuries! At our house, we are grateful for the blessing of hot water and the comfort that it brings. A day that doesn’t include water therapy is a day that never seems to rest squarely on the hours, just enough off kilter to be cranky.
So, Boss, what happened was this: after working on that project till after midnight last night? I arose at the usual hour, made coffee, prepared water therapy – not imagining for a moment said therapy would send me back to sleep. I awoke with a splash to cold coffee, which meant I was at least 15 minutes behind schedule.
Isn’t it great I’m only five minutes late?
Tuesday
Lots of wardrobe experts claim you only need two pair of pants to create 15 fashionable outfits. I don’t think they ever considered the sorts of messes that season my workday. After spilling that tray of left-over coffee and tea down my trouser-leg yesterday, I had to launder something drip-dry to wear today, which meant I had to press clothes this morning. Ordinarily, this would have been no problem, but the kids had a grand time (unbeknownst to me) doing a melted crayon craft the other day, and it took me eight minutes to clean the wax from the iron.
What a good thing, Boss, that I’m only five minutes late!
Wednesday
You’d have been really pleased with me, Boss. I set all the clocks in the house ahead five minutes. I made sure I sailed out the door five minutes early (which was really 10 minutes early, right?). A good strategy, I think.
I had prepared lunch last evening, got to bed in plenty of time for a good night’s rest, had clothes all laid out and remembered to take the timer with me during water therapy.
The only hitch was I left behind that prepared lunch, only realizing so about two blocks from home. I’m telling you, Boss, I recovered that two blocks in record time.
Imagine! All that extra walking, and I’m only four minutes late.
Thursday
I got a little discouraged this morning. I’ve made such a great effort today to get to the office on time. I used all the little tricks the wise advise. I would have been here right on time today, but Yoda (the cat) took objection to my briefcase, or something in it. I had to treat the leather right away and change everything to another bag.
Still, Boss, I’m just three minutes late.
Friday
Serendipity – ya gotta love it, right Boss? I am really together today, and would have been here seven minutes ago. What happened is I bumped into that speaker you wanted for the staff workshop – that one about organizational strategies – the one we’ve been playing phone tag with all week? Well, we’re all set to go for the 17th.
Oh, that’s okay, Boss, I’ll just take a few extra minutes for lunch today.
