Marguerite Bush (Hartlen) — The Hartlen family sadly announce the passing of Marguerite, 93, at her home in Lady Lake, Florida, on Sunday, January 28, 2007. She was born on Sept. 22, 1913 in Milton, Queens County, and was a daughter of the late Edwin and Sophia Hartlen. Marguerite was a registered nurse and graduated from Halifax Children’s Hospital. She did wartime service as a nursing sister in the Royal Canadian Air Force and was stationed at Yarmouth, Halifax and Gander, Nfld. She was the first administrator at Queens General Hospital. After she met and married her husband Derek, another hospital administrator they moved to the USA where she volunteered at his facilities and later retired there with him. She is survived by her husband, Derek Bush of Lady Lake, Florida; two sisters, Amy Simpson of Stonehaven Lodge, Port Mouton, and Dorothy (Russell) Freeman of Milton. She was a favorite aunt to many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Robert, Rex, Reginald, Harry and Clair; and sisters, Gladys Fralic, Jessie Kempton, Jean Irving, and Roxie Slater. She loved her family, her home, her cats and her flower gardens. Because of her love of plants and flowers, she could be found chairing a garden club, wherever she lived. This was one of her most satisfying and rewarding hobbies and she shared her botanical knowledge with others. She touched the lives of many wit her kind and gentle ways and was a friend to all who knew her. Following her wishes, cremation has taken place. Internment will take place at a later date in Milton Cemetery, Milton. Donations in her memory may be made to Queens General Hospital or to any charity of your choice.
