April 22, 2007 to April 28, 2007 Ethel Selena Shupe — 88, of Mill Village, Queens County, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2007 at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Milton, she was the daughter of the late John and Hattie (Harnish) Veinot. When Ethel was younger, she enjoyed playing cards with her friends and was a great cook and baker. Ethel was a member of the Liverpool Curling Club, W.I.N.S, and a former member of All Saints Anglican Church, Mill Village. She enjoyed the outdoors, working in her yard and going to camp. Ethel is survived by husband, Donald of Queens Manor, Liverpool; daughter-in-law, Betty Shupe of Mill Village; grandchildren, Kerry of Yarmouth, Karen (Victor LeBlanc) of St. Bernard; sister, Mary Daley of Westville; brother, James of Sandy Cove. She was predeceased by her stepfather, Charles Osborne; son, John “Jack”; sisters: Nettie Baker, Betty Rafuse, Esther Whynot; brothers: William, Hector, Frank, Freeman, Charles; half-brother, Clyde Osborne. Funeral service was held Thursday, April 26 at Chandlers’ Funeral Chapel, Liverpool; Rev. Arthur Nash officiated. Burial in Mill Village Community Cemetery. April 22, 2007 to April 28, 2007 EISNER, Raleigh Millett - 91, of Lawrencetown, NS passed away April 22, 2007 with his loving family at his side. Born December 26, 1915 in Bear River, he was the youngest son of the late O.A. and Ethel (Emeno) Eisner. Raleigh was of a very gentle, kind nature, always thinking of others before himself. He was the loving, devoted husband of Etta Eisner for 68 years and they lived in Lawrencetown, Annapolis County all of their married life where he owned and operated a General Store for over 25 years. They were blessed with 3 wonderful daughters. Raleigh was a very faithful and devoted member of the Lawrencetown United Baptist Church for over 70 years and served on many committees including the honor of serving as a deacon to the glory of God for many years. He loved his Lord dearly and put his trust in Him completely. He was a charter member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge for 70 years and upheld their principles of Friendship, Love and Truth. He was the District Deputy Grand Master for a number of years and he visited many lodges on their behalf. He received a citation for many years of volunteer service from the National Red Cross. He loved music, especially gospel hymns. His favorite sports were tennis and curling, and playing 45's with dear family and friends, enjoying the treats that followed. He is survived by his wife the former Etta Sarty; daughters, Marilyn (Lyman) Huskins, Milton, Queens Co.; Lois (Garry) Lupkoski, Comox, BC; and Joan (John) Clarke, Pictou Landing. Grandchildren, Patricia Isnor, Larry Huskins, Tracy Kerr, Christa Clarke, Selena and Rebecca Lupkoski; one great grandchild, Nathaniel Isnor and step-great grandchild Kael Kerr who made his world a more joyful place because they were part of it. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers, Shirley and Kenneth. Valley Lodge # 153 I.O.O.F. service was held Wednesday, April 25 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, (902)825-3448, visitation followed. April 22, 2007 to April 28, 2007 RHODDY, Ellis - 93, of Albany Cross, NS, passed away April 22, 2007 at home. Born in Simpson’s Corner, NS, he was a son of the late Joseph and Rebecca (Cole) Rhoddy. In early years, Ellis had been employed as a cook at CFB Greenwood and later worked as a cook in various lumber camps. He particularly enjoyed his two dogs “Maggie and Jiggs”. Ellis received a great deal of pleasure from friends stopping by his home, where he enjoyed his independence and living a simple life. He is survived by his daughter, Shirley Banks (Garry Boyd), Nictaux, grandchildren, Melanie McGill and Michael Banks; great grandchild, Jessica Smith; also step - children, step-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and †brother, Harley, Bridgetown. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Jean Salsman, sisters, Sadie and Viola; brothers, Henderson, Elvin, Leslie, Allister, Calvin and Carmen. Visitation was held, followed by private visitation Tuesday evening, April 24, 2007 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, (902)825-3448. April 22, 2007 to April 28, 2007 Anthony Frederick “Tony” Morgan – 61, formerly of Habitant, Kings County, passed away Monday, April 23, 2007 in Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville. He was born in St. John’s, Newfoundland. He had been employed with Acadia University for seven years as a custodian. He enjoyed fishing, camping, motorcycling and sports, especially baseball. For over 13 years, he has been a resident of Evergreen Home for Special Care, where he enjoyed participating in many social functions. He is survived by his wife, the former Daisy MacInnis; a daughter, Christine (Vincent) Corkum, Stony Plain, Alberta; a son, Anthony “Tony” (Tammy), Grand Prairie, Alberta; a sister, Doreen, Ontario; six brothers, Horace, David, Wayne and Stan, all of Newfoundland; Edward and Gordon, both of Ontario; four grandchildren, Anita, Jenny, Andrew and Brittany; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters. Visitation was held from 7p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 26, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 27, 2007, Reverend David Elliott officiating. April 22, 2007 to April 28, 2007 DUNLOP, Rebecca Lohnes, 90, of Surf Lodge Nursing Home, Lockeport, formerly of Sable River, passed away in Surf Lodge Nursing Home on Monday, April 23, 2007. Born in Clyde River, she was a daughter of the late James and Manson (Lohnes) Flemming. Rebecca was a lifetime servant of the Lord including having been a Sunday School Teacher, a member of the church choir, a member of several church committees, a member of the Women’s Institute and the Women’s Missionary Service. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Rebecca was an avid knitter and gardener. She is survived by sons, Leigh Snow (Myrtle), Prince Rupert, B.C; Paul (Rose) Dunlop, Upper Tantallon; Howard (Michelle) Dunlop, P.E.I; sister, Marjorie Dexter, Sable River; nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, Russell Snow; second husband, Malcolm Dunlop; brothers, Hilton, David and Brad Flemming; sisters, Amelia and Leora. Funeral service was Wednesday, April 25, 2007 in the Sable River United Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. John Hammond officiating. Interment in Sable River Cemetery. April 22, 2007 to April 28, 2007 MAILMAN, Homer Brenton - 93, Allains Creek, Annapolis Co., passed away April 23, 2007, in the Annapolis Royal Nursing Home. Born in Lake LaRose, Annapolis Co., he was a son of the late Harry and Bertha (Anderson) Mailman. He served overseas during World War II. Homer owned and operated a store in Upper Clements for many years and operated a mobile grocerteria in the area, he was also a commissionaire at Fort Anne and the Habitation, member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 21, Annapolis Royal, and a member of the St. Luke's Anglican Church, Annapolis Royal. He enjoyed working in his vegetable garden and visiting with family and neighbours. He is survived by sons, Gary (Margaret), Upper Clements; Edward (Evelina), Allains Creek; grandchildren, Brenton and Craig; sister, Nina Wear, Allains Creek; close friend, Vivan Walker; dear friend and neighbour Arlene Redmond. He was predeceased by wife, Myra Frances (Wade); brothers, Howard and Martin. Visitation was held April 24, with a Legion service in Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal. Funeral service was held Wednesday, April 25, in St. Lukes Anglican Church, Annapolis Royal, Canon Ken Vaughan officiated. Interment followed in Oakhill Cemetery, Dugway Road. April 22, 2007 to April 28, 2007 POOLE, Lester Vernon - 90, Sand Beach, died April 24, 2007, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born March 26, 1917, in Sand Beach, he was a son of the late Harry and Louise (Wyman) Poole. He was predeceased by brothers, Albert in infancy, Syd (Trenton, Ont.), Douglas (Sand Beach); sister, Lillian (Sand Beach). He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 66 years, Evelyn (Hines); daughter, Ellen (Mac) MacDougall, Hamilton, Ont.; sons, Bruce (Bev), Hantsport; Albert (Judith), Sand Beach; grandchildren, Christopher, Kristen (Tracie), Jaclyn (Ian), William, Jane (Glen), Jody, Katie, Brenda (Gary); great-grandchildren, Kassidy and Gervontay. He was a retired fisherman who began his life on the ocean at age 16 and, like all fishermen, never really left it. He enjoyed old friends coming by so he could catch up on the fishing news. In later years, he loved planning and caring for his vegetable garden and greenhouse. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church. Funeral service was held in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth, on Thursday, April 26 at 3 p.m. with Rev. Robert MacCormick and Rev. Bev Densmore officiating. April 22, 2007 to April 28, 2007 ADAMS, Carl Morrison - 94, Kelly's Cove, Yarmouth Co., passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on April 24, 2007. He was a son of the late Nathaniel and Maude (Holmes) Adams. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Edith Cavell (Goodwin); children, Carl "Sonny", Collingwood, Ont.; Lynn, Utopia, Ont.; James, Yarmouth; Randy (Shelli), Mount Vernon, Ind.; Alice (Wayne) Smith, Yarmouth County; Connie (Gary Duquette) Marion, Midland, Ont.; Shirley Merrill, Michigan; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild. He was predeceased by his first wife, Lavina (Bethune); brothers, Albert, Charlie, Ken; sisters, Margaret, Hazel, Maude, Alice. Carl worked at the Yarmouth Box Factory and then Motor Mart before joining the Yarmouth Fruit Company, which later became the Coca Cola Company. He was employed with them for 17 years, delivering bottled Coca Cola from Bridgetown to Bridgewater. Carl then went on to work for Cosmos Mill until his retirement at age 64. While employed at Cosmos, Carl traveled to Norway to learn new technology and bring it back to implement it at the mill. He earned several commendations for patents improving the production lines. Carl enjoyed woodworking, painting, reading, camping and bluegrass music. He liked to keep busy and continued to do his own yard work until age 91. He will be fondly remembered by all who knew him for his famous storytelling and he will be lovingly missed. Visitation was Friday April 27 from 7-9 p.m. in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth, where funeral took place Saturday at 2 p.m. with Rev. A.D. "Bill" Newell officiated. Interment in Riverside Cemetery, Hebron. Memorial donations to the Yarmouth Branch Victorian Order of Nurses or The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our devoted husband and father, Kenneth on April 24, 2007, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Yarmouth on March 18, 1926, he was a son of the late Frederick William and Anne Delphine (LeBlanc) LeBlanc. Kenneth passed away peacefully with his family by his side. He leaves behind his daughters, Anne (Phillip) Saulnier, Yarmouth; Simonne (Ray) Franzen, Woodvale; Myra LeBlanc, Yarmouth; Debbie Kerr, Mavillette; Claire (Cameron) Day, Medicine Hat, Alta.; Lisa (David) Melanson, Meteghan; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Doris (Jeddry) LeBlanc; son, Michael Ernest in infancy; sisters, Rosie, Mildred, Helen, Margaret, Irene, Elizabeth; brothers, Ernest, George, Wilfred James, James William, Thomas, William. He was the last of his immediate family. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Sunday in Meteghan Funeral Home. Funeral 11 a.m. Monday in St. Vincent de Paul Church, Salmon River, Msgr. Gerald LeBlanc officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice. He was a wonderful provider for his family and a friend to many. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
April 22, 2007 to April 28, 2007 Florence Taylor-MacGowan – (nee Gates) of New Minas, Nova Scotia and Welland, Ontario, suddenly, at the Welland County General Hospital on Tuesday, April 24, 2007 in her 89th year. Cherished wife of Colin MacGowan and the late Wray Taylor. Beloved mother of Marshall Armstrong(Joanne), Deborah McCulloch (Robert), Gerald Taylor (Xiaoling), Evan Taylor (Suzette), and Lorene Taylor (Quentin Docherty), all in Ontario. Loving grandmother and great-grandmother to 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Dear sister-in-law of Eileen Taylor, Anne Gates, Douglas Armstrong, and Harold Gates. Also survived by several nieces and nephews and her daughter-in-law Oral Armstrong. Predeceased by her first husband John Armstrong (WWII), son Duane Taylor, one sister and two brothers. Raised in Port Williams, Florence moved to Welland in 1946. In 1991 she married Colin MacGowan and moved to New Minas, returning to Welland in late 2006. Florence was an active member of First Baptist Church in Welland and Cornwallis Baptist Church in Canard. Funeral was held on Saturday, April 28 at Cudney Funeral Home in Welland, conducted by the Reverend Glen Barrett, followed by an interment in Fonthill Cemetary. As expressions of sympathy, donations to a charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.
