April 15, 2007 to April 21, 2007 continued Melissa “Missy” Jean (MacLeod) Bardell – 40, of Coldbrook, Kings County, passed away on Saturday, April 21, 2007 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in North York, Ontario, she was a daughter of Marilyn (Johnson) McKillop, Stewiacke and Allister MacLeod, Dartmouth. She had been employed in the office of Merks and Valley Transfer. She was a loving wife and mother who especially enjoyed spending time with her children. Melissa also enjoyed traveling to Cape Breton to visit with friends and extended family. She is survived by her husband, Brent; two daughters, Brenna and Jana and a son, Aaron, all at home; two sisters, Tami MacLeod (Blaine Culley), Ontario; Allison MacLeod (Brad Lawrence), Truro; a brother, Corey MacLeod, Bradford, Ontario; her step-father, Ivan McKillop, Stewiacke; her step-mother Joan MacLeod, Dartmouth; her parents-in-law, Cecil and Lorraine Bardell, New Minas; a sister-in-law, Cheryl (Bill) Usher, New Minas; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister-in-law, Janice MacLeod. Visitation was held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2007, Reverend Gary Countway officiated. April 15, 2007 to April 21, 2007 continued BOUDREAU, Nelson J. – 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 21, 2007 in Tideview Terrace, Digby, after a lengthy illness of Alzheimer’s. Born in Melbourne, Yarmouth Co., he was the youngest child of the late Henry and Anne “Patronne” (Muise) Boudreau. He served in the Merchant Navy during the second World War, and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 20, Digby, as well as a member of the Merchant Navy Association. He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Thibault); son, John (Sandra), Calgary; sister, Olive, Melbourne; step-daughter, Donna (Ron); step-granddaughter, Shelley, Dartmouth; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Gladys Shaffner; daughter, Bertha; sons, Nelson Jr. and Andy; sisters, Laura, Addie and Alma; brothers, Edward, Joe, George and Ernest. There will be no visitation by request. The funeral mass was held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 28, from Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Melbourne, Father Wieslaw Papuga officiated. Interment followed in the parish cemetery. It was requested that there be family flowers only. April 15, 2007 to April 21, 2007 continued Kathleen Marjorie “Kaye” Gould – 82, of Kentville, passed away Friday, April 20, 2007 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Middleton, she was a daughter of the late Lebaron “Barry” and Jessie (Banks) Coleman. She had been employed in Toronto and later in Halifax with the T. Eaton Co. Ltd. as a personnel manager for the Maritime Provinces. She also owned and operated Belinda’s ladies shop in Kentville for 25 years. She is survived by a son, William “Bill” Clarke, Kentville; grandchildren, Nathan (Nicole), Edmonton, Alberta; Kelsey and companion, Kristin, Kentville; great grandchildren, Noah and Kiera; step-great grandchildren, Liberty and Marleka; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Ivan Gould; brothers, John “Jack”, Ronald, William “Bill”, and Gordon. Visitation was held from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 26, 2007, both in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend John McNally officiating. April 15, 2007 to April 21, 2007 continued O’CONNELL, Herman Joseph, 64, passed away at home Saturday April 21, 2007. Born February 6, 1943 in Yarmouth he was the son of the late Herman Sr. and Florence (King) O’Connell. Herman worked 20 years in the middle east in the oil industry. He was a member of the Nova Scotia Sportsmen Association. Surviving are loving wife of 38 years, the former Lorraine Surette; son Mark, Stoney Creek, Ontario; he will be sadly missed by his aunt Nainie. There was no visitation by request. Memorial service was held Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at 2:00 pm from H.M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, 29 Albert St. Yarmouth, Deacon Stephen Bourque officiated. Interment followed in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Yarmouth. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Diabetes Association of Nova Scotia or to a charity of your choice. April 15, 2007 to April 21, 2007 continued Robert George ”Bob” Greene – 94, formerly of Coldbrook, Kings County, passed away on Saturday, April 21, 2007 in Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville. Born in Bishopville, Kings County, he was a son of the late George and Bessie (Benedict) Greene. He had been employed in the lumber mill in Coldbrook for seven years and later worked as the Chief Boiler Room and Maintenance Supervisor of the former Blanchard Fraser Memorial Hospital, Kentville, from where he retired. He was a member of the Coldbrook Baptist Church and the High Tide Drifters. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, the former Maizo “Mae” Joy, Evergreen Home for Special Care; a sister, Muriel Joy, Dartmouth; a brother, Walter, St. Catharines, Ontario; two granddaughters, Barbara Adams, Billtown, and Kathleen (Charles) Oikle, Coldbrook; four great grandchildren, Carolyn Creamer, Amanda, Ashley and Amberlee Adams; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two daughters, Carol (Blenus) Best and Kathleen Greene; four sisters, Stella, Ruth, Pauline and Marjorie. Visitation was held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2:30 p.m. Monday, April 23, 2007 both in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Robert Billings officiating. April 15, 2007 to April 21, 2007 continued JEFFREY, Wordlow Willard Cleveland passed into the arms of his Saviour on Monday, April 16, 2007 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital with his family members around him. Born July 31, 1920, on Harris Island, Yarmouth Co., he was a son of the late James and Hattie (Nickerson) Jeffrey. He spent the first few years of his life on Harris Island before moving with his parents to Woods Harbour, where he lived his remaining years, except for the time he served in the Army during the Second World War. He was a fisherman by trade. He is survived by brother, Charles (Pearl), Woods Harbour; sisters, Allie (Fernand) Pepin, Ottawa, Kathleen (Clarence) Garron, Eileen Nickerson, Woods Harbour; step-daughter, Cora (Mike) Rhyno and family, Yarmouth; also many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. He was predeceased by brothers, Marshall, James; brother at birth; sisters, Anelda Stoddard, Helen Sears and Annie Kathleen Jeffrey in infancy. The funeral service was held Thursday, April 19 in Central Woods Harbour Baptist Church, Pastor Edward Nickerson and Pastor Phil Williams officiating. Burial was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Upper Woods Harbour.
April 15, 2007 to April 21, 2007 continued Andrews, Goldie Kathleen – 94, passed away April 21, 2007 in Vancouver Place, Yarmouth. Born in Weymouth North, she was the oldest daughter of the late Eva (Brittain) and Alexander Lombard Sr. She was predeceased by husband Benjamin, who served in the war overseas in England. She was a loving mother who worked hard on the farm they had when the four children were growing up. In her later years she loved tending her hens and chickens. She also had a fond love for her cats. Goldie was a member of the Bethel United Baptist Church, Ashmore. She is survived by her daughters; Gertrude (Clifford) Vidito, Digby, Mildred (Carl) Andrews, Barry Ontario; sons Charlie (Darla) Andrews, Digby; Robert (Evelyn) Andrews, Brandon, Manitoba; sisters, Alice Doucette, Hilltown, Mabel (Robert) Main, Ashmore, Dorothy Moore, Plympton, Carole (Floyd) Melanson, Plympton; brothers Russell Lombard, Digby; Stanley, Yarmouth, Arnold (June) Grosses Coques; Alexander, Weymouth North, several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Goldie was predeceased by sister; Sylvia Manzer, Evalina Hill, brothers, Donald and Chester Lombard and Richard, infant son Ernest, an 8-year-old grandson Devin Vidito, and by a granddaughter Patricia Andrews. She was buried in the Riverdale Baptist Cemetery. Rev. Fred Biglow officiating. Pallbearers were Eugene and Troy Vidito (grandsons) brother Alexander, nephews, Fred, Andy and Stanly Lombard Jr. The Eulogy was read by Richard Main (great nephew) on behalf of his father Ronald Main. Goldie will be missed by all who loved her and especially her family.
April 15, 2007 to April 21, 2007 continued THOMPSON, Robert Douglas “Buddy”, 74, of Woodlawn Drive, Shelburne, passed away Sunday, April 15, 2007. Born on February 22, 1933 in Lapland, Lunenburg County, he was a son of the late Guy Arlington and Stella Ellen (Johnson) Thompson. Buddy was a member of the Clyde IOOF Lodge #98, P.D.G.M., and Jordan Falls Rebekah Lodge #127. He was employed by CFS Shelburne for fifteen years as well as being a self employed blacksmith. He was a Past Warden of Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Past Manager and Past President of the Shelburne County Exhibition. Bud was best known for his passion of Bluegrass, Gospel and Country Music. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, the former Clare Louise Matthews; daughter, Deborah May (Larry) Driver, Denver, Colorado; Karen Lorraine and Ken Brown, Sable River; son, Robert, Woodlawn Drive; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; sisters, Avalon James, Wileville and Pauline Zwicker, Lapland; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by daughter-in-law, Donna Marie (Bower) Thompson. The funeral service was held on Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Jordan Falls, with Rev. Matthew Sponagle officiating. Interment was in Lake John Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the “Lodge that Gives” or Holy Trinity Anglican Church.
April 15, 2007 to April 21, 2007 continued Edith Roberts (Salsman) – passed away April 17, 2007, at age 72 surrounded by her loving family at Malden Park Continuing Care, Windsor, Ontario, after a brief battle with cancer. She was the daughter of the late David Salsman and Violet (Lowe, Salsman) Paul. Born in Berwick Nova Scotia on July 26, 1934, she grew up in Waterville and got her education here in Nova Scotia. She moved to Windsor Ontario where she found work. She met and married Clifford Roberts nearly 50 years ago. He is now deceased. She is predeceased by a sister, Janet Stackhouse and some aunts and uncles. She is survived by step-Father James Paul, brother Johnny and his wife Lili Salsman, daughters, Marlene (Dwight) Phillips, Karen (Clyde) Ducharme, sons, Blair (Laurie) Roberts, David Roberts and friends Carrie, Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren whom she loved dearly. Also surviving is her Aunt Helen Jefferson in Greenwood, who has been very close to her and Edith loved her dearly. She has more aunts, uncles, cousins and relatives in Annapolis Valley, Halifax and all over Canada. I am another Aunt, June Salsman, who has exchanged Christmas cards wth her ever since she went to Ontario, even recieved one last year. Her brother Johnny bought a motor home, drove from Winnipeg to Windsor, Ontario, and picked her up and brought her to Nova Scotia a few years ago. While here, we had a party at her cousin Eleanor Morse’s home in Berwick where she met some relatives and friends she hadn’t seen for years. She and Johnny and his wife were very pleased. She will be sadly missed by many people. Edith was a Charter Memeber of the Roseville Fountainblue Optimist Club. Visitation was Thursday, April 19, 3 -5, 7 - 9 p.m. Optimist Club Service was held Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Service was held Friday, April 20, 2007 at Families First Funeral Home and Tribute Centre, Windsor, Ontario.
