Annapolis RCMP responded to a total of 108 calls in the Annapolis County region during the June 8 to 15 period. Among these were five false alarms, five false 911 calls, nine domestic incidents, and fourteen traffic collisions.
(Note: Due to the sensitive nature of complaints involving sexual assault, domestic violence, children’s welfare, and mental health, not all calls are considered appropriate for publication.)
The following is a summary of the 108 calls:
- June 8 at 1:10 p.m. Deep Brook. Local business reports suspicious activity overnight, empty bottles and garbage. Owner advised by police that individual responsible had been arrested on an unrelated case. Matter resolved.
- June 8 at 1:26 p.m. Bridgetown. After a report of another broken window at the elementary school, continuing a trend of the past month or so, police request that anyone with information about suspicious activity in the area contact the detachment.
- June 8 at 2:54 p.m. Highway 101, Middleton. A reported erratic driver was located at a local business. No evidence of impairment, but driver was tired after working long hours.
- June 8 at 3:47 p.m. Nictaux. A citizen reported an ATV driving across his/her property on a regular basis. Police wish to caution ATV drivers that doing so without permission is a violation of the Off-Highway Vehicle Act.
- June 8 at 3:51 p.m. Nictaux. Police responded to a complaint of harassing phone calls.
- June 8 at 4:36 p.m. Wilmot. A case of possible identity fraud was reported after a resident received notice of an unknown application for a credit card under his/her name.
- June 8 at 9:59 p.m. Highway 1, Paradise. A single-vehicle collision occurred in which a vehicle struck a guard rail resulting in one occupant being transported to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The vehicle was no longer driveable.
- June 9 at 10:37 a.m. New Albany. Police contacted the owner of an abandoned vehicle and arrangements were made to remove the vehicle.
- June 9 at 11:58 a.m. Middleton. Police patrolled after receiving a report of a disturbance in a business parking lot and discovered an injured male who was then transported for treatment at the hospital. Investigation of the incident is still underway.
- June 9 at 3:34 p.m. Bridgetown. Police assistance requested by EHS to deal with a difficult patient. Situation resolved successfully with police attendance.
- June 9 at 5:00 p.m. Wilmot. An erratic driver was located and explained the incident as the result of a harried search for a dropped cigarette.
- June 9 at 6:15 p.m. Middleton. A complaint of an individual behaving unusually resulted in a police check which ruled out any need for further police action.
- June 9 at 7:15 p.m. Wilmot. The Offender Monitoring Centre contacted local RCMP to check on an overdue client. Officers attended the individual’s residence and found that he/she was present, but had been late returning from work.
- June 9 at 7:50 p.m. Torbrook. A cautious buyer contacted police for assistance in determining whether a recent chainsaw purchase was stolen property. Police found no evidence of wrongdoing.
- June 9 at 10:01 p.m. Nictaux Falls. A complaint of threats over the telephone was resolved through police contact with parties involved.
- June 10 at 1:29 a.m. Bridgetown. A suspicious person complaint resulted in the arrest of an impaired driver. The subject failed a breathalyser test, was lodged in cells overnight and released the following day to appear in court at a later date. A passenger was likewise arrested and lodged overnight for public drunkenness.
- June 10 at 9:01 a.m. Wilmot. Hubcaps were reported stolen during the night.
- June 10 at 9:32 a.m. South Farmington. Police investigated an overnight theft in which a cut-off saw, power broom, and a quantity of diesel fuel were stolen from a vehicle. The matter remains under investigation.
- June 10 at 4:40 p.m. Granville Ferry. Annapolis Royal police contacted Annapolis RCMP to report arresting a youth suspected in relation to a break and enter in recent days. RCMP then took custody and questioned the youth, and charges may be pending. Investigation continues.
- June 10 at 5:22 p.m. Clementsvale. Police assisted in resolving a landlord-tenant disagreement.
- June 10 at 9:38 p.m. Bridgetown. Report of a intoxicated individual resulted in his/her arrest for breach of an undertaking. The subject was lodged overnight, and released the next day pending a court appearance.
- June 11 at 2:29 a.m. Torbrook. An alert citizen reported seeing suspicious activity around a vehicle, resulting in police discovery of a few poor souls locked out of their car.
- June 11 at 4:10 a.m. Wilmot. Police were called to a residence to assist a family in the midst of medical problem. EHS were then contacted and arrived to assist in treating a diabetic condition.
- June 11 at 10:00 a.m. Carleton Corner. A resident reported waking up to find his/her mailbox damaged.
- June 11 at 11:00 a.m. Springfield. A break and enter into a residence and damage to possessions. The matter remains under investigation.
- June 11 at 11:40 a.m. Hampton. Police investigated a complaint of break and enter into a vacant house which has been the object of similar incidents in recent weeks. Anyone with related information is requested to contact the detachment.
- June 11 at 1:48 p.m. Highway 1, Clementsport. A single-vehicle accident resulted from manoeuvres to avoid a dog in the road. The vehicle struck the guard rail, flipped into the ditch and had to be towed. No reported injuries.
- June 11 at 8:20 p.m. Torbrook. Police investigation of a disturbance call led to an adult male being arrested for property damage. Subject lodged in cells overnight, then released pending court appearance.
- June 11 at 10:06 p.m. Police responded to a report of a male threatening people with a knife, resulting in the subject’s arrest. The individual was taken to Yarmouth Provincial Court where it was decided to remand the subject to custody. He later appeared in Digby Provincial court and was further remanded into custody. Michael Cromwell of Clementsvale faces four weapons-related charges, one count of break and enter, one count of uttering threats and one count of mischief to property all in relation to that single incident. Further court proceedings will continue in June.
- June 12 at 12:51 a.m. Meadowvale. Complaints of a loud party were resolved through police attendance.
- June 12 at 12:18 p.m. Middleton. Police patrolled to a business parking lot to disperse a crowd whose members were behaving aggressively to one another.
- June 12 at 2:19 p.m. Highway 101, Lequille. A two-vehicle accident occurred causing no reported injuries.
- June 12 at 9:26 p.m. Cornwallis. A noise complaint results in police patrolling to request owner turn down the music.
- June 12 at 10:25 p.m. Middleton. A police checkpoint results in arrest of a driver for drug possession. The subject faces charges under the Controlled Substances Act.
- June 13 at 1:00 a.m. Wilmot. An anonymous report of possible drunk driver resulted in police locating the reported driver who then failed a breathalyser and faces charges for driving under the influence.
- June 13 at 1:40 a.m. Middleton. A vehicle check resulted in the arrest of an impaired male driver who then failed a breathalyser and was later released pending a court appearance.
- June 13 at 2:16 a.m. Highway 101, Princedale. A single-vehicle accident occurred after driver hit the guard rail while swerving to avoid a deer. No reported injuries.
- June 13 at 6:11 a.m. Mount Hanley. A citizen awoke to find his/her vehicle had been stolen during the night. Digby Traffic Services later contacted Annapolis RCMP to report the stolen vehicle was involved in an accident in Digby territory. A male from Fredericton now faces charges of theft, and possession of stolen property. Possible charges in relation to this and other incidents are still under investigation.
- June 13 at 11:29 a.m. Wilmot. Police responded to a report of a license plate stolen overnight.
- June 13 at 3:16 p.m. Highway 101, Lawrencetown. An abandoned vehicle turns out to be a vehicle reported stolen from Bridgewater. The Fredericton resident arrested earlier admitted to involvement, hence the possible pending charges.
- June 13 at 9:17 p.m. Bridgetown. A loud music complaint was resolved through police attendance.
- June 14 at 2:07 a.m. Middleton. A disturbance call resulted in the arrest of a female for violating court conditions. Subject released pending court appearance.
- June 14 at 3:24 a.m. Nictaux. Report of four individuals on the fire hall roof led to immediate patrol, but the subjects had vacated the area prior to police arrival.
- June 14 at 4:35 p.m. Nictaux. After a possible gas’n’go theft, patrols located the driver who agreed to return and pay for his/her purchase.
- June 14 at 6:21 p.m. Middleton. Somehow a gas purchase descended into a dispute over the price at the pump. Police attended and the matter was resolved when the customer agreed to siphon the gas from his tank and take his business elsewhere.
- June 15 at 9:05 a.m. Highway 201, Paradise. A single vehicle collided with a deer sustaining minor damage.
- June 15 at 11:14 a.m. Middleton. A loud bang, similar to a gunshot, was reported. Police attended and located a blown transformer and power outage.
