Council also approved the renaming of Roy Street in Liverpool to Schooner Drive.
Generator Purchase
A 2008 Kohler Diesel Generator was approved for purchase at a cost of $38,650 plus installation for a total of $41,500. The generator will allow West Queens Community Centre to serve as a shelter during emergency situations.
Tanker Purchase
Council approved the purchase of a new Tanker Trailer to haul leachate from the second-generation landfill to the sewage treatment plant. The approved budget for the trailer is $118,000, and will come from the landfill reserve. The current trailer is a second hand milk tanker, and has reached the end of its lifespan. Mayor John Leefe said “We’ve milked it for all its worth.”
Tent Dwellers Applauded
Council commended and congratulated Tent Dwellers Centennial Festival 2008 Planning Committee members for their hard work and creativity to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the publication of “The Tent Dwellers” book.
Waterfront mandate approved
Council approved the mandate brought by the Planning Advisory Committee to look into potential redesigns of the Liverpool Waterfront. The area covers Henry Hensey Drive from the former Legion property to Market St., and Water St. west of Market St.
FCM Delegations Picked
Delegates were selected to go to the next four Federation of Canadian Municipalities Conferences. Mayor Leefe and the Chief Administration Officer will attend all four, with two councillors going with them. FCM is a body made up of almost all of the municipalities across Canada, and lobbies the Canadian Government.
Region of Queens Municipality Council Notes
Road Renaming Region of Queens Municipal Council approved the renaming of a private road labeled 10-14 in Westfield to Turtle Terrace.
