Barrington Municipal High School (BMHS) athletes brought home the division 2 banner from the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation (NSSAF) track and field championships in Dartmouth on June 5 and 6.

It is the first time a provincial track and field banner has been won by BMHS. Athletes compiled 129 points to lead division 2 schools competing in the meet.

The BMHS team of 23 athletes was led in the results’ column by Travis Bradley, who topped the competition in senior boys’ javelin with a 52.23m throw for gold.

Intermediate boys’ runner Cameron Jesso clocked a time of 15:07 for second place in the 100m hurdles.

The BMHS senior boys 4X400 relay team (Matt Ilse, Max Schweren, Jamie Thomas and Josh d’Entremont) also posted a second place finish with a time of 3:39.12.

In field events, Devine placed fourth in long jump and sixth in triple jump. Intermediate boys’ athlete Robin d’Entremont placed fifth in high jump, while senior girls’ athlete Katie Comley was fourth in javelin and eighth in discus.

The junior boys 4X400 relay team (Brett Stoddard, Morgan Messenger, Tyler Brannen and Stefan Ross) posted a fourth place finish.

Junior boys’ sprinter Noah Atwood was fifth in the 200m.

The BMHS intermediate boys relay team (Cameron Jesso, Colby Greenwood, Robin d’Eon and Tyler Goreham) placed fifth in the 4X400 and were eighth in the 4X100. The senior girls 4X100 relay team (Lynsay Thurber, Katie Comley, Brooke Greenwood and Carissa Hatfield) had a sixth place finish.

The BMHS senior boys 4X100 relay team (Matt Ilse, Max Schweren, Shayne Devine and Jamie Thomas) placed seventh.

In intermediate boys shot put, Luke Greenwood placed eighth, while teammate Colby Greenwood was eighth in discus.

The track and field team was named team of the year at the BMHS sports banquet on June 8.
