Sarah Millman was the big winner at the third meet of the 2009 Field of Dreams throwing series June 13 at the Launch Pad in Port Williams.

Millman topped her age group (bantam girls) in all three events at the meet, including a provincial record throw of 24.64 metres in the discus. The Truro native also won the bantam girls’ hammer throw with a 23.33 metre result, and the shot put with a throw of 8.06 metres.

Drew Erskine also established a new provincial record in the bantam boys’ discus with a throw of 26.86 metres. Erskine also won the hammer throw and shot put in his age group.

Other triple winners included Kayla Gallagher in midget girls, Peter Millman in midget boys and Nathan Burris in juvenile boys.

Chelsea Whalen won the juvenile girls’ discus and shot put, throwing a new personal best of 36.39 metres in the discus. Nicole Larade won the senior girls’ discus and shot put.

Rhonda Kennedy won the senior women’s hammer throw, Kathy MacPherson the masters women’s discus, and Garrett Ramey the senior men’s shot put.

The final meet of the 2009 Field of Dreams series is set for June 20 at 4 p.m. at the Launch Pad, with competition in all four throwing disciplines: discus, shot put, javelin and hammer.

Entering the series finale, Andrew MacDonald of the host Launchers Athletics club holds the overall series lead with 1,601 points, but Peter Millman of the Truro Lions is nipping at his heels with 1,580 points. Chelsea Whalen of Launchers (1,554 points), Garrett Ramey of Launchers (1,492) and Nathan Burris of Lions (1,364) round out the top five.
