The 2008-2009 Horton athletic awards ceremony June 8 saw Lindsay Harris win her final high school athlete of the year award and Josh Thomas earn the first of what will likely be many similar accolades.

Harris, co-captain of the D-1 girls’ basketball team and a provincial champion in golf this past season, and football and rugby MVP Will Taylor were the choices for Horton’s Senior Athletes of the Year.

For Harris, it marked the fourth consecutive year she had been Horton’s Female Athlete of the Year, twice as a junior and twice as a senior.

Thomas and Peggy Kenny, a pair of Wolfville grads, were the choices for Junior Athletes of the Year. Both competed in several sports during 2008-2009, with Thomas in particular the epitome of the all-round athlete.

Recognition was given to Horton’s provincial championship teams in girls’ golf and JV girls’ soccer as well as regional champions in cross-country, golf, JV boys’ soccer, boys’ and girls’ volleyball, curling, JV girls’ soccer and basketball, D-1 boys’ and girls’ basketball and table tennis.

The JV girls’ soccer team, which won provincials for the second time in three years, was named the Student Council Team of the Year.

As well, Heidi Stirling, Will Taylor and coach Barry Leslie were recognized for receiving Ambassador of School Sport awards from the NSSAF.
