The Central Kings Gators’ girls took to the ice Nov. 14 in an exhibition match against the visiting Avonview Avalanche.
The girls’ division of the Valley High School Hockey Leage is up and running. Central Kings made a point for a strong contending team, thrashing Avonviw 8-0.
The Gators struck hard and fast, hitting the Avonview net with a barrage of shots. Avalanche goalie Melissa Bahri was spectacular, despite the lopsided score. She battled right down to the final buzzer, but didn’t receive much support from her teammates.
Lauren Morse had three goals for Central Kings. Brittney Foote had two, with Kelsey Turnbull, Rheanne Sherman, and Robbyn McNeil adding singles. C.K. netminders Kendra Mansfield and Lynsee Misner combined for the shutout.
Womens’ hockey is alive and well at the high school level. Teams in Central Kings, Horton, West Kings, NKEC, Avonview, Middleton, Parkview from Bridgewater, and Barrington assure fans the girls’ division of the VHSHL is competitive.
