The 2009 version of the annual Liverpool Privateer’s 5 Mile Road Race, a Run Nova Scotia Series event being held June 28 will once again feature the second annual Joe Mason Fun Run, a two-mile course, which starts at the Liverpool Fire Hall and crosses the Trestle Trail before looping back to the start point.

The race named in honour of Joe Mason who founded the Privateer’s Road Race in the early 1970s, is targeted towards new and recreational runners alike. Race organizers are hoping for a strong turn-out of youth and first time runners. It’s a great “jumping off point” for people looking to kick start a healthy active summer.

Come on out and run or just cheer on your local entrants.

The Joe Mason Fun Run and Privateer’ Road Race both start from the fire hall on Henry Hensey Drive. Registration forms are available by contacting Jacqueline Crosby at ajcrosby@eastlink.ca or on the Run Nova Scotia website calendar of events. Same day registration is also available from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. on the 28th prior to the race. Back by popular demand, Take One Photography will be on sight capturing images and memories as runners cross the finish line.

Race organizers would like to remind motorists that Bristol Avenue will be closed to traffic from 9 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. on June 28.
