Digby’s U16 boys are one win away from soccer provincials.

They won their first playdown game against East Kings 1-0 in Digby on Monday night Aug. 18.

Nathan Janson got the only goal of the game, converting a nice pass into a clever chip over the East Kings keeper early in the first.

Digby had another half dozen decent chances on goal – they hit several posts, put a couple just wide and the East Kings keeper made a series of acrobatic saves to keep it close.

Digby had no subs for the 90-minute game but showed great fitness in maintaining the pace and owning midfield.

Brandon Sullivan and Adam Peck played solid soccer for the Tigers.

Dawson Acker earned the shut out; though rarely tested, he was quick off the line to stop several dangerous rushes and crosses before they could develop.

Digby now advances to the final Valley Soccer playdown game against Bridgetown, who also won Monday night, 4-0 over Kings West.

The final playdown goes Wednesday night in Bridgetown at 6:30 p.m., with the winner moving on to provincials hosted by Suburban (East Hants, Sackville, Bedford) on August 30 and 31.
