Kendra Fitz-Gerald’s hat trick saved the match for Digby’s U18 girls.

The Tigers, lead by Fitz-Gerald on left wing, fought back from a 3-0 deficit against Middleton to tie the game at the DRHS field Wednesday night, July 2.

Middleton dominated through the early going despite having no subs—the Middleton offence pushed through time and again hitting the post and crossbar several times.

Alaina Britney, Kyra Britney and Rachel Holland scored for Middleton.

Digby didn’t get on the scoreboard until 30 minutes in when Fitz-Gerald broke free down the left wing and cut for the middle.

Again almost directly off the kick off to open the second, Fitz-Gerald ran onto a lead pass from Abbey Thomas and blasted one by the Middleton keeper to bring Digby within one.

Digby had more big big chances early in the second.

Fitz-Gerald was award a penalty shot after she was hauled down inside the 18. Her shot hit the post and Taylor Robinson put the rebound off the crossbar.

Miriam Amirault had two or three big rushes on the Middleton net, the first resulting in a hard shot just wide and the second ending with a pass to Fitz-Gerald who banged home a hard high unstoppable shot to complete the hat trick.

Digby’s goalie Lydia Ross made several big saves in the final minutes as Middleton pressed for the winner and Abbey Thomas, playing just in front of Ross, neatly cleared away several dangerous long passes.

The 3-3 tie improves both teams’ records to 0 wins, 2 losses and the tie.

The U18 girls play next in East Kings on July 9 and they’re home again on Wednesday, July 16 when they host Kings West.
