The Valley United senior women’s soccer team suffered its first defeat of the 2012 outdoor season, dropping a 4-2 decision to Halifax Dunbrack June 10 in Halifax.
Robyn McNeill and Carly Goodine had the goals for Valley United, which at one point in the game led 2-1 before Dunbrack struck for three straight goals. Kentville native Eugenia Renderos had the game-winning goal for Dunbrack.
The loss dropped the Valley women temporarily into second place with a 3-1-2 record for 11 points, one behind 4-2 Dunbrack.
In their other weekend game, the senior women played to a scoreless draw with Halifax County June 9 in Wolfville. Carrie Wood recorded her fourth shutout of the season for Valley.
In other NSSL action June 10 involving Valley teams, the U-18 girls improved to 2-1-3 on the season with a 1-0 victory over Dartmouth United June 10 in Dartmouth.
Jessica Shaffelburg scored the game’s only goal and Emma Connell had the shutout.
The U-18 boys played to a scoreless draw with Dunbrack, with Caitlin Gould recording the shutout for Valley. The U-18 boys stood at 2-3-1, third in their division with seven points.
The Valley senior men were also in action June 10 and topped South Shore 4-1 to improve to 2-0-1 on the season. Dylan Sheehan had two goals for Valley, with James Nunn and Cochrane Noseworthy-Smith adding single markers.
In other action June 9, the Valley U-14 A girls edged South Shore 3-2, with Brette Pettet, Serena Dolan and Shay-Leigh Beaton doing the scoring. The U-14A girls improved to 2-0-1 with the victory.
The U-14 A boys played to a 2-2 draw with South Shore June 9, with Christopher Landry and Cody Ettinger handling the Valley scoring.
The tie gave both Valley and South Shore their first point of the season after each starting the year with four straight losses.
The U-14B boys were also in action June 9 and dropped a 6-3 decision to Cape Breton to fall to 1-4-1 on the season. Mac Muirhead, Braxton Guptell and Angus Anthony had the Valley goals.
