Acadia Varsity Athletics announced May 15 that Calgary teammates Michelle Pryde and Kayla Barry have committed to attend Acadia and join the Axewomen soccer program, starting this September.

Pryde, a centre midfielder, and Barry, who has played both centre midfield and fullback, are both veterans of the Foothills Voltage club team, which has consistently been one of the top-ranked teams in Alberta.

Pryde, who has captained the Foothills squad since 2009 and is also a multi-year starter on Alberta provincial teams, is described as an outstanding student-athlete who can be expected to have an impact both on and off the field.

Barry, an honours student at Rundle College, has a similar resume, both as a student athlete and a community volunteer, having just returned from a trip to Guatemala where she took part in the Stoves for Families program.

Leon Hapgood, who is familiar with both women from the Foothills program, comments that in Pryde and Barry, Acadia is “getting not only exceptional talent, but exceptional people as well.”

For their part, both Pryde and Barry are very much looking forward to continuing their education at Acadia, both in the field and in the classroom.

Pryde noted that Acadia “was a university that really stood out for me.”
